I bought it and will continue to use it because I have it. Be thank full that Microsoft sold it individually because it could really be the tipping point in price. If you are someone who regularly types throughout the day and on the move it's a must ( very compact). But, if you are like me and uses it as a tablet during the day at school and uses the pen religiously, then maybe a bluetooth keyboard and mouse (mouse isn't necessary "touchscreen" but convenient) at home (rarely to be carried with the tablet) might be a better option and will save you a little cash. This review is mostly food for thought for the person who is on edge buying one now. Or maybe wants to and consider all options first.

I bought my type cover a few weeks ago. It's pretty neat- the magnetic connection is really cool and the cover is very thin. A few problems, however: Occasionally the type cover randomly stops working and I have to reconnect it. The material on the back gets dirty easily. The keys show fingerprints very quickly and it's hard to get off.

Great Keyboard, Bad Texture
I love my Surface Pro 3 and I love this typecover. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because of the texture. I really liked and appreciated it when I first got my surface but now I wish it wasn't textured or at least that I had gotten a darker color (mine is cyan). My type cover still works amazingly but it looks kind of dingy now. I have had it for 2 years and use it almost constantly for work and at home and it just looks dirty. Still an amazing product but I'd recommend getting it in black if you will be using it everywhere and traveling with it like I do.

Backlight turned off after about 2 months. Cant seem to get it back ON. Any SUGGESTIONS?????
Does not hold up
I have the original Surface Pro. I have been through 2 of these keyboards. I only use it when traveling and do not abuse them. Not happy with the keyboard. The tablet is fine.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Not that powerful, running super hot all the time.
I thought I hit the jackpot with it, how cool to have an tablet and a workstation in the same time. Don't let yourself fooled by the great advertising of this product. The fans are at full the whole time. It runs super hot and it's super slow.

Bought it in march along w my surface pro 3. It's 18 months and the R key loses its sensitivity. Terrible durability for the price of this key board!
I have the docking station and the Type Cover for surface pro 3. Seldom use the Type Cover as I attached the surface to docking station most of the time. I did detached daily to dock the station. The surface cannot detect the Type Cover after 18 months. Technical team cannot resolve the proble. Poor durability.

short lifespan, spacebar button not responsive
i have this for 1-2 years now and it suddenly has poor connectivity with my surface pro 3 one day. I rarely detach the device. Now it will intermittently connect and disconnect when attached (unusable). Tech support unable to troubleshoot and its put of warranty period. For this price i would expect the product to last much much longer. Spacebar button requires hard tap to be responsive since day 1.
Nice Keyboard, Horrible Trackpad.
The keyboard functions well, it does have some issues with "bounce", as it is soft, and will give if you are typing hard on it. I have also found that if I apply pressure to the keyboard cover's corners to hold the surface still, it will bend, and click the trackpad. The trackpad is not very good, it is nor very responsive, is not responsive enough to handle gestures consistently, and does not always return back from a click. Overall, this will get the job done, but after a few months, the trackpad will become so frustrating you will stop using it.
i can not use it this way

Great features, easy to use, and quietly appealing
I use the keyboard more often than the writing pen. Its more convenient and easier to use than the on-screen keyboard.
