We bought this six weeks ago and like most all features except the microwave time function: It forces you to only select in 15 second segments, nothing less. More selections in 5-second intervals would be better. All choices (for both ovens) are made through a dial, which gets constant use -- for both the micro and oven -- and I can guess this may be the first part to wear out. I was surprised the convention oven does not provide any other choices than 250 degrees....more options would be much better to keep food warm (some require less heat! Again, more choices would be better, like 150, 180, 200, 220 degrees). The lower oven racks are coated and slide easily, especially the middle one on a sliding support! You have to be careful casserole dishes don't come flying out, but it is very easy to use. The racks do have a new "anchor" system that takes effort to learn how to get in and out; I find these difficult because of the twisted end piece which anchors both sides of each rack. It was a nice surprise to find three oven racks, adjusting them is a challenge though due to the design of the racks.. The oven light dims when you shut the door, a nice feature to check positioning. The unit looks great, so nice and clean and exactly fits the old spot! Matching the old footprint was critical, the price incentive made it doable. Clock: We lost power recently and the clock function keeps going out now. How do we correct? Tapping the Start button brings it back, but it eventually goes out. Before, it remained on for quick reference. All in all, a worthwhile investment that adds to the value of our kitchen and our home (we recently upgraded all appliances).

The features are great benefits. There is lots of room in the oven and microwave. Everything cooks evenly and the microwave cooks great. It was easy to install. Overall, the product seems very solid. The two most common complaints i've heard are the dial, and the sound of the beeping. The dial is a little strange to get used to but if it means less buttons taking up space and more space for the microwave and oven, then i'm on board with it. The beeping sound that it makes when the microwave or oven is done is way too quiet. It frustrates me when i can't hear it go off. It's particularly annoying because when the microwave finishes, the fan is still going making it sound as if it's still running. Freaked me out a few times cause i though my food was still cooking after it beeped and i didn't hear it. Here are my additional complaints. It's fancy having a microwave door feel like a double oven because it folds down instead of swings out, but in this case GE chose design over functionality. I would say that if you are about 5' tall, do not consider the recommended height from the floor to access two-handed items inside the microwave comfortably. I have the oven 5" higher than the recommended height because that's how it worked with my cabinet. I'm 5'8" and it's almost awkward with the arms trying to reach over the door. Since the door swings down, not only does it cause your body to be further away and harder to reach in, but you may need both your arms to take out an item, so you then have to pull the item closer to you, step back, then turn away. Also, the drop down door is also harder to close and less convenient to close than a swing out door. A swing out door it's just the flick of a finger. The fan in the oven makes a humming/vibrating noise. When i have the convection fan running. I sounds loud when it cycles off and on. so loud i can hear it hum out of the kitchen and down the hallway. Ironic thing is that i bought a side-by-side GE fridge a few years ago and the same thing happened with the fan in the freezer. it was too loud and eventually had a service guy come out and replace the fan motor. Still is loud once in a blue moon. The most crucial appliance of the kitchen by the most experienced appliance manufacture shouldn't still be struggling with these small usability issues.

Comments about GE Profile 30" Slate Built-In Convection Combination Microwave Wall Oven:
I bought this appliance because of the ratings and reviews I read about it. They were all correct. The appliance not only looks great in my kitchen, but it functions perfectly. It is easy for everyone in my house to operate it and it cooks perfectly.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Timer volume is minimal and not adjustable. Had to cut into cabinet to fit yet inside in a full inch smaller. Racks are inferior, they do not slide and already chipping. Display is green!

Good but impossible to keep clean

I have enjoyed this micro-convection oven for over a year but have two complaints that may or may not dissuade others from purchasing this type of oven. Other than the two issues, this is a very spacious oven with a lot of versatility and I use it often for any assortment of uses. It cooks roasts and other meats in no time at all, is great for thawing meats for spur of the moment ideas, and you can cook on the bottom rotating pan while also heating up something on one or even two racks. Very nice. Now for the two issues, both of which I think GE could address and correct for future models: First, I wish it had a feature to turn off the fan so that the oven could be used like an ordinary oven. Old family recipes, like my grandmother's or mother's breads, cookies, cakes, and any other baked goods should not be cooked in a convection oven, and the directions provided for use with the oven also do not adapt well for those old recipes. In fact, this is not a good oven for baking, period. More disturbing; however, is that it is HORRIBLE TO CLEAN! The instructions plainly state that you cannot use any oven cleaners and it tells you to put some water in a glass container, turn on the microwave to create condensation on the surfaces of the oven, then wipe with a soft cloth. This does not clean off the acrylamide (brown sticky) coating (see attached photo) that occurs over time and, since no chemicals are permitted, the oven will become pretty nasty, even in a year, and eventually, I imagine, will not cook efficiently because of all of the build-up. Sure wish GE would come up with a cleaner for their ovens that would get rid of the baked on nasty stuff!
Combo Micro/Oven is beautiful, however

I just received my new slate kitchen last week. All the appliances are beautiful looking. This combo oven is giving me quite the time though. The two racks in the oven could barely be moved. I, nor my husband, couldn't adjust the racks at all. The service tech (here for another issue) was able to eventually adjust the racks. Anyone else having such a time with them? Will they start moving like regular racks soon? Besides for the squeal they make when pulled out or pushed in, they are not smooth moving.

Great looking unit. Performs well.... Very quite. My only recommendation to GE would be an option to adjust the volume of the tones. I'd like them a little louder.
Easy to install

This oven replaced another GE wall unit and as their ads say it fits when you replace with another GE product. Older oven combo had push button controls. This one has a dial to select features like temperature control. This will take a little longer to set things until we get used to it. I like the oven door is dark so you can't see in it unless light is on. But the top oven has clearer glass and seeing the inside of the microwave is not attractive. As others stated in reviews that I read before purchasing this model, the microwave has a very quiet signal when it shuts off so unless you are in the kitchen you won't hear it. Also no signal when oven reaches set temperature. Those two things need to be addressed in next models. Overall I think it will cook well.

I purchased this unit as part of my kitchen upgrade package for my new home. It was money well spent. Great features and is easy to operate.
