Having thoroughly researched comparable combination microwave/wall oven offerings elsewhere, I opted for the GE unit and couldn't be more pleased with the purchase. Exceptional quality, appearance and functionality define the unit and its price is fully competitive with other brands too. Its controls are self explanatory and very easy to understand and navigate. Rest assured this GE unit will most certainly enhance your kitchen and bring it to a higher level altogether. Cabinet modification to accept the unit was minimal because all dimensions were comparable to the Kenmore it replaced except for it being 8" shorter. The addition of a new elevated wooden platform and face board completed the cabinet alteration.
Couldn't be happier with this high end GE microwave/wall oven stainless steel appliance and would confidently recommend its purchase to anyone wishing to upgrade their kitchen.

Any experienced cook looking for a good cooking tool should run, not walk, away from this combo oven unit. It is laden with countless features, (some useful, others mostly frivolous in my opinion). Unfortunately, the cost of this bloated feature set is one of the most overly-complex user controls imaginable. Worse, the control set is not at all intuitive, and plodding through the poorly written user guide is less than helpful sometimes and no fun at all. Result - Don't expect a visiting chef ever to be able to use this appliance without your help (unless he has the misfortune of owning one of these units, himself!). Some examples of goodies: 1. Programming simple microwave cycles. If you want to microwave something on HIGH for a short time, say 3 minutes, you can either press the "add 30 seconds" button 6 (six) times; or, do the following: Push "Microwave" Rotate the Selector dial to "Time Cook" Press the Selector dial to select Rotate the Selector dial to select "Minutes/Seconds" Press the Selector dial to select Rotate the Selector dial to set "Minutes" to 3 Press the Selector dial to select Selector display is already at "00 Seconds" (Otherwise rotate to select number of seconds) -- Press Selector dial to select Verify Cook Power is set to "High" (Otherwise rotate Selector dial to desired Cook Power) - Push Selector dial to select. Push "Start/Pause" (or Selector dial) to "Start". Meanwhile, something else cooking on the stove that is sensitive to a few seconds (more or less) of cook time - BURNS while you fiddle. This long contorted procedure is horrible and NOT necessary in a properly designed unit. My previous GE microwave, for example, required the push of a single button to do this task! 2. Microwave Preset Selections My user guide lists 8 major headings, with 34 subselections. (These entries do not correspond to a logical hierarchy, by the way.) So, for example, if you want to heat a beverage there are 5 different beverage choices (from "Water" to "Hot Cocoa", with Coffee, Tea and Milk in between). But you can get to this choice either by pressing "Reheat" or "Microwave" -> "Cook" -> "Beverage". Are the times for these different beverages all different? No info is given. There is also a feature for cooking with two sequential power/time settings. One can cook "By Time" or "By Time 1 & 2". Do you access these both from the Selector dial "By Time" setting? No! If you want to cook "By Time 1 & 2", you don't select cook "By Time". You select "Cook" with the Selector dial (rather than "By Time"). Then, you can select the "By Time 1 & 2" as a subcategory under "Cook". Did you follow that? I could go on. It appears that an attempt was made to create a specific "Preset" for every conceivable food, cooking option, time, power level, etc., etc. that one might ever encounter. Many are available -- somewhere -- if you can find them. Of, course, there are literally thousands, if not millions, of combinations that are NOT covered. So, I guess you still have to have some cooking knowledge. 3. Unconventional buttons. There are two unconventional buttons on this unit that are noteworthy - "Back" and "Help"! The "Back" button appears to be modeled after PC Browser software! It mostly works, if you care. Lots of times you get the message "Back feature no longer available". That doesn't mean the feature has been discontinued (as it might if this were software); just there is no "Back" to go to (and a not-very-well-thought-out message text). The "Help" button, however, is a true joke. First, what on earth were the designers thinking about to consider a "Help" button (or a "Back" button, for that matter) on an OVEN!?? Shouldn't that have been a clue that their whole design is a DISASTER? Well, it doesn't work, anyway! "Help" entries longer than 3 lines require scrolling down to the next "frame" (for want of a better word) to see a continuation of text. Unfortunately, it isn't quite there. One of the three lines is continuation (the last), but the first two are a repeat of contents from the previous frame. End result - completely garbled text. 4. Some really nice features with essential information not given. Two features that could be really useful - "Warm" and "Proof". "Warm" is for keeping food warm prior to serving if there must be a delay. "Proof" for allowing yeast dough to rise. The temperature for either of these two modes is a critical parameter for any experienced cook wanting to use them. So why is there no spec and no temperature information provided?? 5. Cleaning. The microwave door opens in front of the oven opening. That results in a 30 inch distance from the edge of the microwave door to the back surface of the oven. Unless you have longer arms than an average human, that is too far a stretch to clean the rear of the microwave. Alternatively, you can stand first to the right, and then left, of the microwave door and reach at least the nearer half of the oven rear surface. It's still an awkward stretch, both left and right sides have to be used, and you can't see what you're cleaning from either position. If you clean your microwave daily, you will come to HATE this product. 6. Fans. There is good news and bad news about the fans in this unit. The good news is that the main oven fan is QUIET. That is an enormous benefit over a noisy fan, because that fan remains ON until the oven is near room temperature -- that can be a LONG time. The bad news is that the microwave fan does NOT turn OFF when the cooking cycle is complete. The cessation of fan noise is a hugely useful indication to the cook that the microwaving has finished, but NOT on this unit. The "DING" (or whatever sound is emitted signaling cycle completion) competes with numerous other kitchen appliances to indicate status information. (Coffee pots when brewing ends, toaster oven when temperature is reached and, again, when cooking is done, possible other appliances). Further, the oven display and fan control appear to have no consistent behavior relative to microwaving. Generally, the fan stops when the microwave door is opened. But whether it starts again when the door is closed, and what the display indicates is mysterious (at least to me). I have seen the display suggest "Continue" after the cooking cycle is complete, and the fan has stopped. But pushing the Selector knob (for "Continue", EVEN THOUGH THE CYCLE HAS COMPLETED) initiates OVEN power "ON, not fan "ON" (which one might use to exhaust the oven air). Predictable and documented behavior here is surely not too much to ask. Summary. I've had this oven for only two weeks, so much of what I don't like may mellow with time. Certainly, the cleaning and user interface issues are a big disappointment. With use, I hope that the useful features will emerge into greater prominence and problems recede as adaptation to even the worst things (hopefully) happens. For now, I would look for a different product more attuned to use as a simpler, more efficient tool.

Cooktop replacement

from St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

This was a major update to propane cooktop we had I a house we bought. Old only had one functional burner. This got us five working burners, all burners ignite properly. Only issue installer had was inability to tune burn height due to needing extremely thin and longer screwdriver than either of us had in our tool boxes. Having to use as it came from factory.
