I liked that the knobs on this cooktop were metal instead of metal looking plastic and that they can be put into the dishwasher and that they are located at the front of the unit instead at the side. I did not get to see this in person before I upgraded to it from the standard Whirlpool model provided by the builder. I chose it because it has 3 grates instead of just 2 which I thought would be easier to lift for cleaning. What I discovered is that the center grate can only be removed if both side grates are removed because they "pin" down the center one. My solution to that is to lift off one side for cleaning and then sort of scoot my hand under the center grate. I do this for each side. The burners are sealed, which I love, but the black burner caps do knock off easily when cleaning round them. They light quickly and deliver strong and quick heating but I do have to move some pans to the one back smaller burner if I want a very low heat because the bigger burners do not seem to turn down low enough. The stove is stylish but the one design drawback is that the "cut-a-way" side grates at the front do not have quite enough surface to hold a larger frying pan--have to move it to the center burner for stability.

My fiancé and I bought this cooktop online before moving into our first home. We had granite countertops installed, and I provided the installers with the cutout dimensions from the Kitchenaid website. The depth read 19 1/16 inch, (and I have the screenshot to prove it), and lo and behold, the cooktop did not fit when we tried to install it. The website now correctly lists 19 13/16 inch for the cutout depth. Thanks to a typo from Kitchenaid, I'll have to pay for the granite company to come back out and cut a bigger hole. What a hassle to not be able to use our new cooktop.

Recommended for those how like to spend time clean stovetop

By

from San Jose

Comments about KitchenAid 30" Stainless Steel 5-Burner Gas Cooktop:

This was our first gas cooktop. It looks great. The burners are glitchy to turn on. Low heat means continuous boiling and burning pans. Not a good feature. Only ONE burner goes low enough to stay warm. Ruined two pans already! We got the 30" due to space limitations. We do a lot of cooking with several pans at once. It does get a bit crowded on the stove and pans don't fit very well. I do like the continuous grill top so pans can easily slide around. Using a regular burner it takes forEVER for water to boil for pasta. Even when it does get hot enough to add pasta, it still never really boils as much as my glass top did. The cooktop is a nightmare to clean. I hate it. My husband even says he feels sorry for me. The directions for cleaning stainless steel are to go with the grain of the steel. Only use a soft cloth. Clean after every use. Wipe the burner rings clean. This sounds like directions from someone who doesn't actually use the stove to cook on. Things get spilled. Things might boil over. Grease splatters. And then you keep on cooking and guess what? Everything gets cooked on the the burner rings, which are look like something between a plastic and metal with a shiny finish. The directions for cleaning those are do not scrub! Are they fricking kidding me? Very reminiscent of the old fashioned coil electric burner rings which were impossible to clean. Scrubbing these rings does not get off the crud; it dulls the finish. So I've decided to live with them. Then the center burner has a screw in burner thing that is literally impossible to clean. My husband's nickname in the kitchen is The Splatter King. Unless you only do dry cooking you'll either spend an hour meticulously and gently trying to clean the stove after each use, or just give up and overlook the burner rings that will never look good again. Next one will be induction or Professional Gas. Sorry Kitchenaid, hubby is ready to replace it after 2 months. But it looks pretty.

This cooktop came with the builder options and I'm really happy with it. It takes a little to get used to the high to low ignition setting, but once you do, it's great!

Comments about KitchenAid 30" Stainless Steel 5-Burner Gas Cooktop:

Replaced one KA from the 50's. So much easier to clean. Beautiful presentation. Lots of use choices. Only minor concern is burner buttons VERY sensitive and turn like butter. However, I love the cook top.

'Tis unit is too small for 5 burners. We are replacing it with a 36inch. They should have only put 4 burners. So frustrating

Learning Curve for Old Cook

By

from Lodi, CA

Comments about KitchenAid 30" Stainless Steel 5-Burner Gas Cooktop:

Cooking is a new adventure with the new KitchenAid cooktop. I like the idea of the fast-burner - simmer burner after cooking with an eighteen year-old KitchenAid gas cooktop that did neither well. So far I have used those features on the new cooktop the most. They are very efficient and often at a lower temperature than I am used to using. I do find the stainless steel top is harder to keep clean. I recommend purchasing the Whirlpool Affresh Stainless Steel Cleaner. It works well. All in all, I am very satisfied with my new cooktop.
