I bought this dishwasher on the advice of a Consumer Report review. They were right on. The only noise from this appliance is the slight sloshing in the sink trap when discharging. While in operation, it is silent. I would recommend this product to my best friends. This is the quietest dishwasher I have ever owned and the best appliance I have owned in my lifetime (74 years).

This dishwasher did not meet my expectations for these reasons:1) The website for KDTM354ESS shows a third rack for kitchen utensils, but the unit does NOT come with it (see attached picture from their website).2) The unit leaves excessive moisture on the inside overnight. I've used many dishwashers over the decades and never saw this issue before.3) The unit's design can cause damage to the cabinets. The reason for this is there's a vent on the SIDE of the door. The installation instructions indicate the unit is to be installed flush with the cabinets. However, this side vent on the unit installed as instructed causes two issues for me:a) The steam directly hits the cabinet face, which becomes extremely hot to the touch.b) Steam entered the inside of my cabinet interior. It then condensed on the underside of the granite and dripped down inside the cabinet interior onto the cabinet.4) The User Instructions clearly state the heated drying cycle "Uses the heating element and a fan to remove moist air." However, I never heard the fan run during the heated drying cycle (with or without ProDry selected). When I made a service call to say that the fan never runs during the heated drying cycle, the service tech was told by the tech on their hotline that the fan is operating normally (i.e. it's not supposed to run during the heated drying cycle - the opposite of what the User directions say). This is important because the fan is designed to exhaust air out of the BOTTOM of the unit instead of allowing steam to escape out of the top side of the unit through the vent mentioned in #3.I'm completely dissatisfied with my purchase.

Comments about KitchenAid Stainless Steel Built-In Dishwasher:
This is the first KitchenAid dishwasher we have ever purchased. It is extremely quite and you wouldn't even know it was running. We have only been in the house 3 weeks and had the dishwasher for one week working and only used it once. I do not like how the dishes are stacked in the dishwasher, will review the instruction booklet again, and it did not clean three small plates and some utensils. All our previous dishwashers have been Bosch and wish I had stuck with that brand. Will give it another go but presenting hand washing the dishes.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Really quiet dishwasher, does not dry well.

We bought this dishwasher at Brandsmart when our Maytag died. I initially was looking at the LG, but the store told me that didn't have a heated dry. So instead we went with this one, for that and the top row. When we got it home, it did not have the 3rd top row, and while it's Very quiet and cleans great, it doesn't dry the dishes no matter what we try.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Best Dishwasher We Have Owned (Over Bosch, etc.)
from Spokane, Wa
We have had a number of dishwashers over the years - mostly higher-end stuff. This dishwasher is by far the best. It replaced a Bosch that was 54db. The Bosch was very quiet when we purchased it. This dishwasher is 44db and we noticed a huge difference on the run cycle and when it drained (the Bosch was noisy when it drained). The dishes are dry the next morning when we run it at night and it does a good job of cleaning. It matches our Wolf and Monogram appliances. I wasn't sure if my wife would like the unit, but she loves it. The unit installed easy. The only thing I didn't like was the screw locations that hold the unit from tipping - they are a bit difficult to access (but since you only do it at installation it really isn't that big of a deal).

Quiet, Quick, and Quality clean
from Edmonton, AB
We wanted a new dishwasher as I had to basically wash my dishes before I put them in the dishwasher. We researched for a long time and went through many options. We decided on this one because we have had good experiences with Kitchenaid in the past, and liked the fact that this one filtered the food and sprayed up clean water. I can just stick the dishes in after dinner, and even if they sit overnight, they still come clean. I love the express wash feature, and I love that it has a rinse only option. It is also great that it is basically maintenance free, no need to clean a filter out weekly. To boot, it is beautiful. We were looking to just replace the dishwasher, and ended up replacing everything because we wanted it to match the beautiful look. We were a little disappointed at first when we realized this model didn't have the third rack, but after some more research, we are kind of glad it doesn't. We felt that the third rack is too new to the scene and the kinks of it haven't been worked out yet.
Love the cleaning power of this machine

I have been "testing" our new dishwasher by throwing everything and anything inside it to see how it does - so far, there is NOTHING it has not cleaned perfectly! I am surprised and delighted with this machine. The only thing I wish I had not gotten is the controls on the top instead of on the front as is traditional. All too often, I find I have hit buttons or turned it on without meaning to. Excellent cleaning power though and I would buy it again because of that.

Not only does this dishwasher look great in my kitchen, but it does a great job and is quiet. Love it.

We bought it because of the consumer reports ratings and maybe our expectations were too high. It cleans well most things, but it has trouble with plastic. We like the timer and how quiet it is. Also, we had to switch the first one the installers brought since it wouldn't drain at all.
not as good as rated
