Our situation called for an electric downdraft range, and the KitchenAid range came through beautifully. It's beautiful, and we also love the functionality. It's loaded with features we've never had before. I might have to try some new dishes. The downdraft is amazing. It truly vents the smoke and odor and down and out. The amount of air it moves it amazing. Installation was easy and straight forward. Great product.Only negative I can mention is that there is a chemical smell when the oven is heating up. Maybe it's the "newness" breaking in; not sure yet.

I purchased this range shortly after it was introduced to the market in order to replace a Jen Air stove that had a faulty display (common). Less than four months after installation, this Kitchen Aid range also failed -- low fan speed (seems to be common on Whirlpool products? Error code F8E0 -- Google and beware!). For the price of this range, I expected better. So off to customer service to address the problem and to see how they stand by their product. Covered under warranty? Yes. Time before someone can come to repair THEIR faulty product? two and a half weeks. How does that sound for a "professional" line of products? First it fails, and then a less than stellar warranty service (We'll fix it eventually, and hopefully your warranty will expire before we have to do it again!). When you spend this kind of money on a range, you expect the company to do what they can to remedy a problem -- not with this product, and not with Kitchen Aid. My first and definitely last Kitchen Aid product. If you DO decide to purchase this range, be sure to get an extended warranty. It's the only thing that saved people from Jen Air's quality issues, and apparently the only thing that can help you with Kitchen Aid.If it does fail, then I'd recommend not believing the customer service department when they tell you 2-3 days for a repair. You'll get an informal e-mail later making it clear that you'll have at least half a month without having a functioning oven. This is my first and last Kitchen Aid product. For the expense -- I expected a better product and better support.

I have only had this for about a month and am still learning about all the features it has. So far, I think this stove has great performance.

A huge, frustrating waste of time and money
First off, let me say I am just a guy who likes to cook. There, I said it. I have been cooking for a long time and have cooked on all types of stove tops; gas, electric and recently the inductive tops. Getting to the meat of the issue, (sorry) let me say I couldn't possibly be more disappointed with this stove top. The oven is just ok. I have owned this stove for a little over a year. There is absolutely nothing to like about this product. I bought it in part because it has the ability to downdraft the odors and smoke to the outside. However, in fairness, I have not hooked this up, because it is not an easy task if you choose to DIY, or inexpensive if you choose to have a professional install it. The reason I've not connected the downdraft is because I am looking for another stove. That's right, it is that disappointing. After spending nearly $3,000 I want to dump this thing. Getting to the point, it has to do with lack of heat control. Electric stove tops have never been that great at this function, but this unit is the worst I have ever had the misfortune to own. In order for the burners to even begin to heat up in a period less than the next ice age, they must be on a Hi setting. Eventually, the product will start to cook or boil. That's when you must remove it completely from the burner or IT WILL BURN or boil away. Turning down the control has no effect for at least 8 to 10 minutes. I am not kidding or exaggerating one bit. If you started out trying to get a low simmer with the proper dial setting, it will take 18 minutes to reach that point with 8 oz. of water. Trying to cook any combination of dishes simultaneously, each with its own specific heat requirement is nearly impossible. After turning off the burner, expect the stove top to remain too hot to touch for at least 15 minutes. The nice glossy black surface is pretty, but is difficult to keep clean. If you so much as spill a drop of anything and I mean anything other than water, you had better stop what

Not too easy to install for a do-it-yourselfer. We replaced a Jenn-Aire and the downdraft requires a different exhaust outlet but once installed works great. Would give it 5 stars if it included a cookbook with instructions on how to steam bake and use the convection oven. VKP S Good looking stove and love the larger oven!
A few pros, many cons

I just recently purchased this range. It's very nice looking out of the box but it went downhill from there. The only other positive is the the power of the downdraft though it is a bit noisy. You would think when you pay almost $3k for a higher end range they could put the kitchenaid logo on straight, mine is crooked. The cooktop is very challenging to control the temperature. It's either low or boiling, medium heat is impossible to find/maintain. The biggest negative is the fact that the oven takes over 20 minutes to preheat to 425. My old range took 8 minutes. Plan your meals well in advance. Ultimately I'm very disappointed in my purchase especially considering the cost. If I had any alternatives for a downdraft I would return it to the store.

Love this stove that replaces a Jenaire downdraft electric stove. I read the reviews and I bought this one thinking it would be an installation using the exsisting venting. Not the case. The profile of the fan is completely different. Since we live in a rural area, installers are not always available. We hired an electrician to do the install, but he wasn't able do it. It took 2 days, a very creative handyman, and lots of patience to finally get it installed. If I had known of this issue, I would have purchased just a regular stove without the downdraft.
I would not recommend this range.

Enjoying our new downdraft range! We needed a down draft to replace an existing one. There are not too many to choose from now and this one seemed the best for our purposes. The smart convection settings make converting recipes a breeze. Everything has been cooking, baking and roasting to perfection. The cooktop is easy to clean with no annoying cracks and crevices. I like the indicators that highlight when the burners are on or even still hot to the touch. Aside from a slightly loud downdraft, my only complaint is that the control panel is too sensitive. Even a drop of water registers on it. All in all, a good looking and functional range.

I replaced a 20+ year old downdraft slide-in range. KitchenAid is the only company that still make a downdraft range (there were 4 or 5 when bought our original one) to slide into an island, so we had no choice but this one. So, I really didn't study the features or design. However, I'm pretty much loving this new one. Not sure how much is just that the tech is so much improved in the last 20 years, or that it's just exceptional, but I love it all the options and flexibility of the burners, convection, etc. I've only had it a few weeks so I can't speak to the reliability, but i'm hopeful that it is repair-free for a long time given the relative expense of a downdraft vs a regular range.

WOW... couldn't have asked for a better product... all the features this stove has are amazing... there aren't very many choices when it comes to downdraft. I use to always buy the cheaper stoves. your only cooking on it.. not really.. theres a big difference with the quality the heating and all the options this stove has... we liked it that much for 2 days all we did was cook and bake with it... the elements heat up very quickly and cool down fast as well ..we love all the features this stove has and would recommend it and repurchase another...
