Bought this washer 5 months ago. It replaced a 20-year-old washer so it was like going from beating my clothes on a rock by the stream to having them cleaned by NASA. First thing you'll notice is that it uses a 10th the water an old machine uses. Now, I don't know about you, but I don't sit at tea parties all day in my spotless whites. I actually get my clothes dirty. So, the 'normal' setting is useless due to low water. I set every load, regardless of what it is, on the 'bedding' setting because it's the only way to get these new machines to use enough water to get the clothes clean. It's more water than the 'deep water' setting though don't ask me why. Then I set it on its longest wash length to get it all clean. I also use the 'extra rinse' cycle to get the soap out. The 'max extract' spin setting nearly gets the clothes dry. Now, while that's great from a clean clothes point of view, the total cycle length is going to end up rivaling glacial drift. The good thing is this washer is so huge you can basically do three loads worth of the old washer's capacity in the new washer. Therefore, by comparison, the cycle length isn't that much worse. As for steam, sanitize, wrinkle control and all those other settings? They make you feel like you have to interview your laundry load before choosing the most appropriate setting. In other words, they never get used except I do occasionally use the delicate setting. I also learned if you just want to spin a load set it on rinse/spin then turn the 'extra rinse' off and all it'll do is spin. The only truly irritating thing about these new machines is the lid lock. As soon as you turn it on the lid locks and it starts to 'sense' the load though what that means on a metaphysical level I'll never know. It's no big deal until you find that errant sock laying on the floor in front of the washer. Trust me. Wait until it's done 'sensing'. Don't just hit pause and open the lid. It freaks it's little computer brain out. Like I said, it's irritating but once you hear how fast the washer spins you'll understand why the lid lock is necessary. It'll keep some kid from getting her arm ripped off. As for using the washer cleaning chemical? Unnecessary; just use a cup of bleach in the washer cleaning cycle. And, yes, you'll have to run a washer cleaning cycle if you ever want that irritating reminder light to turn off. Overall it gets my clothes much cleaner than my ancient machine. Not sure if that's an endorsement or an inevitability but either way I'm pleased with the performance of this machine.

Love the large capacity

Comments about Maytag White Top Load Steam Washer:
I can fit so much laundry in each load. I do however wish the cycles were faster but big large capacity makes up for that. For some reason the softener compartment has clogged And I have not yet figured out how to clean it out. So follow the directions and do not overfill the softener and soap compartments.

I bought about a month ago...replacing a front loader. Superior clean, quiet operation, great washing options. I would suggest to anyone buying this model to use med. spin level so as not to have to shake out before putting into dryer. The deep water wash really is a great option for highly soiled clothes. Follow manufacturers directions to add pods and scent beads BEFORE adding clothes.
5.5 cu ft model is great

Bought this a month ago and am very pleased with it. Runs quiet, and lives up to what it advertises it can and will do.

I replaced a washing machine that I had for 19+ years. I was looking for American made and large capacity. Very happy with this purchase
Easier to use than expected

I purchased this machine approximately 3 weeks ago. I use it daily if not several times a day. We live on a farm so things can be really dirty. I have been pleased with the cleaning ability of the machine. Like everyone else I was skeptical of the low water use but have not found it a problem. I am really aware of how much detergent I put in since I am used to a whole cupful but that is not needed. So far, very happy with my purchase.
More features than my old Maytag.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new machine. It is easy to program and especially like the different settings that deal with the size of a load and extra features that I did not have before
Hopefully 2nd time around works

After the 1st washer failed on the 2nd wash, it was replaced by this one. So far so good in sense that it has worked with each load. The only problem is that it is very noisy during the wash cycle. I don't think I would buy a Magtag again.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
