Bought this washer 5 months ago. It replaced a 20-year-old washer so it was like going from beating my clothes on a rock by the stream to having them cleaned by NASA. First thing you'll notice is that it uses a 10th the water an old machine uses. Now, I don't know about you, but I don't sit at tea parties all day in my spotless whites. I actually get my clothes dirty. So, the 'normal' setting is useless due to low water. I set every load, regardless of what it is, on the 'bedding' setting because it's the only way to get these new machines to use enough water to get the clothes clean. It's more water than the 'deep water' setting though don't ask me why. Then I set it on its longest wash length to get it all clean. I also use the 'extra rinse' cycle to get the soap out. The 'max extract' spin setting nearly gets the clothes dry. Now, while that's great from a clean clothes point of view, the total cycle length is going to end up rivaling glacial drift. The good thing is this washer is so huge you can basically do three loads worth of the old washer's capacity in the new washer. Therefore, by comparison, the cycle length isn't that much worse. As for steam, sanitize, wrinkle control and all those other settings? They make you feel like you have to interview your laundry load before choosing the most appropriate setting. In other words, they never get used except I do occasionally use the delicate setting. I also learned if you just want to spin a load set it on rinse/spin then turn the 'extra rinse' off and all it'll do is spin. The only truly irritating thing about these new machines is the lid lock. As soon as you turn it on the lid locks and it starts to 'sense' the load though what that means on a metaphysical level I'll never know. It's no big deal until you find that errant sock laying on the floor in front of the washer. Trust me. Wait until it's done 'sensing'. Don't just hit pause and open the lid. It freaks it's little computer brain out. Like I said, it's irritating but once you hear how fast the washer spins you'll understand why the lid lock is necessary. It'll keep some kid from getting her arm ripped off. As for using the washer cleaning chemical? Unnecessary; just use a cup of bleach in the washer cleaning cycle. And, yes, you'll have to run a washer cleaning cycle if you ever want that irritating reminder light to turn off. Overall it gets my clothes much cleaner than my ancient machine. Not sure if that's an endorsement or an inevitability but either way I'm pleased with the performance of this machine.

Comments about Maytag White Top Load Steam Washer:
Love this machine. It's large capacity means fewer loads, meaning less water and less electricity use. It's quiet and the variety of settings meets any needs. I love the dispenser drawers. Very handy and less messy. It cleans like a champ. I was skepticall at first since there is no agitator in this model. I was pleasantly surprised the first time we used the machine. Love it!

Great stain removal

A see through lid would be a helpful feature. I have only had this washer for a couple of weeks so am not totally sure about all it's features and long term use. However, the other day a stain got by me and I didn't see it until removing it from the dryer. I put the item back in the washer added another item, changed the setting, added a little Oxi clean and rewashed. Upon completion of the wash cycle both item came out stain free. I was afraid the dryer had set the stain forever but it was saved.

Have had this washer since October. There are times that the clothes aren't even wet in areas and come out still dirty.

Very inefficient washer. Extremely disappointed.

This washer does not adequately sense wash load size. Detergent is not rinsed out and remains on the clothing. Folded clothes put into the washer remain folded at the end of the cycle. We should not have to trick the wash machine by getting the clothing wet prior to putting it into the washer in order to obtain an adequate water level to effectively clean clothes. We have a septic system, this is not efficient in any way when we have to wash clothing multiple times to get it clean, filling out septic tank and wasting water.

We bought our wash machine over Christmas. I was looking for a simple to use top loader with a large tub. It has so far checked off all of the boxes. I've been able to wash bedding with ease as well as lighter loads. I haven't used all of the functions yet nor have I had to clean the tub, but I imagine it will be an easy process since everything so far has been simple to do.

My washer exhibited an error message that Customer Service said it required a technician. I am now waiting two weeks for a technician.
Extra large capacity of this machine is beyond my expectations.
It is a great washing machine

Have used for about a month and am very pleased with this washer. Clothes come out clean and smelling very good. I also like the simple settings that do the job for all situations. The delay feature is nice and rare on washing machines. My one small complaint is that on the normal cycle, only 3 out of 5 spin speeds are available to select and I thought that there was a problem with the machine until a tech came out and said that was normal. Maytag should make that clear in the literature to avoid customers setting up a tech visit.
