Bought this washer 5 months ago. It replaced a 20-year-old washer so it was like going from beating my clothes on a rock by the stream to having them cleaned by NASA. First thing you'll notice is that it uses a 10th the water an old machine uses. Now, I don't know about you, but I don't sit at tea parties all day in my spotless whites. I actually get my clothes dirty. So, the 'normal' setting is useless due to low water. I set every load, regardless of what it is, on the 'bedding' setting because it's the only way to get these new machines to use enough water to get the clothes clean. It's more water than the 'deep water' setting though don't ask me why. Then I set it on its longest wash length to get it all clean. I also use the 'extra rinse' cycle to get the soap out. The 'max extract' spin setting nearly gets the clothes dry. Now, while that's great from a clean clothes point of view, the total cycle length is going to end up rivaling glacial drift. The good thing is this washer is so huge you can basically do three loads worth of the old washer's capacity in the new washer. Therefore, by comparison, the cycle length isn't that much worse. As for steam, sanitize, wrinkle control and all those other settings? They make you feel like you have to interview your laundry load before choosing the most appropriate setting. In other words, they never get used except I do occasionally use the delicate setting. I also learned if you just want to spin a load set it on rinse/spin then turn the 'extra rinse' off and all it'll do is spin. The only truly irritating thing about these new machines is the lid lock. As soon as you turn it on the lid locks and it starts to 'sense' the load though what that means on a metaphysical level I'll never know. It's no big deal until you find that errant sock laying on the floor in front of the washer. Trust me. Wait until it's done 'sensing'. Don't just hit pause and open the lid. It freaks it's little computer brain out. Like I said, it's irritating but once you hear how fast the washer spins you'll understand why the lid lock is necessary. It'll keep some kid from getting her arm ripped off. As for using the washer cleaning chemical? Unnecessary; just use a cup of bleach in the washer cleaning cycle. And, yes, you'll have to run a washer cleaning cycle if you ever want that irritating reminder light to turn off. Overall it gets my clothes much cleaner than my ancient machine. Not sure if that's an endorsement or an inevitability but either way I'm pleased with the performance of this machine.

Comments about Maytag White Top Load Steam Washer:
Our fifteen year old washer seemed to do just fine until it suddenly stopped working. Deciding to not spend any money trying to figure out why, then more money to fix it, we started looking for a new one. After reading a number of reviews I decided that the reasonably priced Maytag Extra-Large Capacity Washer with Steam Enhanced Cycles- 4.8 Cu. Ft. was what we would buy. What I didn't expect was the amazing difference in our laundry. The very first load we washed proved how inadequate our old washer was. The cleanliness, brightness, stain-freeness (is that a word?) of the laundry was startling. If that weren't enough, the spin-cycle removed so much more water that drying the laundry takes less, far less, than half of the time compared to the older machine. We are very pleased.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I like all the features it has.

I bought this washer a couple of weeks ago and I am quite happy with it.
Bought about a month ago. Very happy with it. Read the manuel and know what to expect and you'll love it. A lot of people complain about HE products. The problem is they don't know how to use it. So educate yourself with what's provided and again you'll love it.
DON'T buy a Maytag....

We don't feel that this washer is getting our clothes clean! If we could return it, we would. Maytag should be ashamed stating that it is made in America! I thought American workers were better at making something than the way this machine is made...
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Laundry Love with Maytag

Bought this less than a month ago and it works great !! I wanted to get a Maytag with an agitator but the sales rep convinced me that a low impeler works just as well and less damaging to the fabric.
Holds a lot

I bought this to replace a more expensive washer that was recalled. This one is as good or better than that product at a significantly lower cost. It cleans VERY well and extracts water like a champ which reduces drying times. It also does an incredible job of staying balanced even with heavy loads. I am a new Maytag fan!
