I had this same top 2.5 years ago. A heavy can fell on it from a cabinet above it and broke the glass, so I had to get a new one. I ordered and received the almost exact same top. What I didn't like was how much more this one cost me, and the much cheaper knobs that are on it. I removed those and replaced them with the more expensive looking knobs from my previous cooktop. And luckily this time my husband could install it for me, so I did save $$$ there. It cooks fine except that not all burners heat up at the same pace. That's a bit annoying. But it IS beautiful.

Does the job, not more not less.

1) About the true-fit guarantee: not quite. We wanted to upgrade our cooktop and, after hesitating with a different brand, we decided to go with another GE product because of their size-match guarantee. Well, our previous GE cooktop was slightly rounded around the bottom unlike this cooktop so it did not fit our countertop. What we thought would be a 30 minute install during our children's nap turned into a two-hour drilling and filing nightmare while juggling our young kids who of course wanted to watch what was happening. 2) About the on light: weirdly always on. There is a light that stays constantly on while the cooktop is connected to electricity (no matter if the burners are hot or not). Which is always, if you install it following the installation instructions. People entering my kitchen keep asking me if I left one of the burners on. Great if you want to pass as a forgetful person in front of your friends! 3) About the color: beware of the glare. I have a vent and light above this cooktop, but I can hardly see better when I turn the light on because of the glare in the glass surface (my previous cooktop was stainless steel between the burners, I never had this issue). 4) About the performance: just okay. Yes, it works fine. I am not impressed by the 'power boil' option, it takes just as long as with my previous GE cooktop.

I bought this cooktop about 2 months ago and it cooks really well. The top doesn't clean easily with just a wipe but that might be standard for all cooktops. With the special cleaner and scrubber it cleans fine.

Enjoy the smooth top

Like the side knobs and easy to clean. The two large elements are too small. my medium skillets and pressure cooker will not fit.
Poor glass top

Within one week of use, we found that the glass top is very susceptible to scratching. Sliding common cooking utensils on the surface, as you would typically do in cooking, will leave scratch marks on the top. This GE cooktop replaced a 20 year old unit with a glass top that was much more durable.

Very good product. Went from a 5 burner coil top to this 4 burner flat cooktop. Took some getting use to but now like the features. Elements heat up fast and food cooks very well. Knobs could use color to read settings better. Very hard to make out settings.
Sleak look for our 1990's kitchen

The old GE coil cooktop was from 1995, it worked fine but we needed (and I wanted) something more modern. This fit in our current cook top space with little counter top modifications. My husband had in installed in about an hour. I only gave it four stars because we have only been using it a day, but in that one day of use it has been great. The heating elements warm up very fast. My husband gave this to me for a Christmas gift due to the other great reviews it had online; and yes I did ask for a new cooktop for a gift.
