We installed GE's new 36" Cafe induction cooktop 1 week ago, and have to say, it is amazing!!! Even after watching many different videos online about the amazing things induction can do, it was still mind boggling to see it in person!! The sheer speed at which you can boil cold water straight from the tap, is unbelievable! So is the instant response when the power level is adjusted! Since there are no hot burners, there's no worry of hard to clean messes from splatters, like on radiant glass cooktops. Now more specific to this cooktop, we love using the griddle on the sync burners!! The top also has a nice size range for each element, unlike most earlier units. You don't have to use cookware the size of the element or larger, you can go quite a bit smaller, and it still works. The top is really nice looking, especially while in use! The LEDs are vibrant and crisp, with a nice design, that reminds me of cool digital gauges from a sports car!! Now a miss that was disappointing. The individual timers for each element, which was a pretty big selling point over many others that don't have that feature, can't be used in conjunction with the kitchen timer that just chimes when it times out. You either have the kitchen timer, which we mostly use, or you have to go into custom settings to have the individual timers that will shut the element off when time is up. Also, it would be quicker and easier to use if you could select an element, then set a time; instead of scrolling from left to right through each element to set them. The next disappointment is the owners manual and installation instructions. They are almost non-existent. They aren't completely specific to the unit. Some parts are, but others are meant more for others, such as the sizes listed for the cutout dimensions. The sizes listed in the instructions are larger than the unit actually is, which led to us having too large of a cutout in our counter, and the new unit not covering the entire hole. I had looked online at the sizes in the instructions, which were exactly what our old cooktop was, but the unit is a half inch less front to back (20-3/8" is the correct size). Now we have to hide the crack somehow or replace our counter sooner than planned. The last miss was the foam tape that is supplied to go between the glass and the counter top. We didn't even get enough to go around a 30" cooktop. I had to stretch each piece to the point of it starting to tear, just to get 3 of the 4 sides. I needed another 21" to finish it (haven't notified GE yet to see how they handle things of that nature).

I began using my new GE induction cooktop on 7/21/2016. Eight days later, two burners began to cut off after a minute of cooking. I would turn them on and they would work for one minute, then cut off, repeatedly. It was repaired under he GE warranty and, the same evening, all 5 burners began to cut off after one minute of cooking. All new parts were installed, and when the repairmen tried to turn on the cooktop, it would not work at all and never again came on. Finally, 7 weeks after the first burner failure, GE replaced the cooktop with the same model. That was 9/23/2016. Now, as of 10/18/2016, burners have cut off seven times, and are now cutting off daily. I love induction, but this product has engineering problems.

Comments about GE Cafe 36" Flagstone Gray Induction Cooktop:
I have had gas range for the past 12 years and just moved to house that had no gas. So I bought an induction cooktop. Love it. Cooks everything faster and when you need to stop heat it does it instantly..

Without an option for natural gas and not favoring electric cooking, we opted for induction. pretty cool technology. biggest difference is cookware and learning how to season magnetic stainless pans. I plan to enjoy this sleek cooktop for years to come

Love this cooktop... It is easy to use with its touch controls, heats up quickly with only compatable pots/pans... needed to buy some new ones, but was well worth it.

As gas was not available in my area, chose induction cooktop. It boils water quickly and has worked well so far.
Induction is better then gas

Got this cooktop to replace a gas unit. This is my second induction appliance so I'm used to it. All the advantages of gas with none of the downsides. Very responsive to temperature settings. Much easier to clean up spills since they don't get cooked on the unit. The glass top is easy to clean. We have to keep the keypad locked because it's too easy to accidentally turn an element on. The plus side is that any unit left on gets turned off if there's no pot on it. Bought the optional souls vide probe and it works well, keeping the pot plus/minus 2 degrees. Not as accurate as a circulating souls vide controller but ok for many things.

I love the ease of use of my new cooktop. The digital dials are easy to read and my food has cooked to perfection. The timer is a handy feature. A great advantage is that clean up is a breeze! The appearance of the cooktop is sleek and contemporary, and the neutral gray color is a perfect compliment to my granite countertop.

Burners will not stay on. Even after we purchased all new Induction Cookware made for induction cooktops. We had several pots and pans that were magnetic but thought they were the problem so we spent hundreds of dollars after we were told our original cookware was the issue. To cook anything we have to stand and turn the burners back on maybe ten times. The repairman said maybe water is the issue. Really!! Imagine a kitchen with zero water and no humidity. Very typical of GE products in the last couple years. I have cell phone videos of this cooktop just shutting off while in use.
