I Bought my wall oven sight unseen by special order. I had an unusual size oven that I had to replace. I knew I wanted a KitchenAid oven because that is the only brand I will purchase. It cooks evenly and is very easy to use. The only reason I just gave it a 4 star rating is the fact that the preheating time is very slow. I do not know if this is due to the EPA standards, but it does not heat up as fast as my old oven. I love the interior lighting, it allows me to see the food easily as it cooks. It has a self=cleaning oven which is a must for me. I would recommend this oven highly.

After one day and one test, this is our review:

We just received the KitchenAid Model #KOSC504ESS 24 in. Single Electric Wall Oven Self-Cleaning with Convection in Stainless Steel. We would have purchased Model #KEBC147VSS for less, but couldn't find it in stock at our local dealer, though it keeps coming up on their website as a special buy.

The oven is about 3/8" taller than my 25 year old Kenmore, so I had to recut the opening. Besides the cutting, installation was straight forward and I was able to do it by myself, though instructions calls for two people to handle the 48 pounds. I was surprised to find the manufacturer's model/serial number label was a simple paper sticker, like a cheap mailing label, which was stuck on the inside door frame. Hopefully heat is not a problem here as the label would surely burn or scorch. I took a picture of it for my records.

There are only two screws used to hold it in place, even though four screws were provided (it looks like from the manual that the double ovens use four screws). I was tempted to drill additional holes to use all four screws like my oven was installed. I immediately had to clean the surface of finger prints, probably mine during the install, but hopefully we won't regret the stainless steel, which is the only color available. We would have preferred black to match our tother kitchen appliances.

Reasons we purchased this model:

- Hidden bottom element to aid cleaning.
- Convection cooking.
- "EasyConvect Conversion System" which "takes the guesswork out of convection cooking."
- Large window for viewing without having to open door during baking.
- Self cleaning cycle.
- Thought this was an upgrade of the special buy oven as the KitchenAid website says of the special buy oven "This product has been transitioned to KOSC504ESS" which is the one we bought.

Positives:

- After a broil and bake cycle to burn off manufacturing residue, our test muffins turned out great using the convection bake. My wife thought the heat should probably be turned down, but I like things browned and crispy. We think we'll like the convection feature once it's all figured out (but see strong concern below).

- Someone ease's review says it's convection only, but it does work in standard oven modes of bake, broil, or proof. The manual does say the convection fan may run at other times however, so we'll have to see what this means. I was able to set standard bake and I could see the fan not running. There is a vent fan that always runs, even after baking to cool the oven, which may have confused others.

- Window is larger than our old oven, but not as large as we expected (see concern below).

- We like the hidden bottom element to assist cleaning.

Concerns:

- "EasyConvect Conversion System" is not anywhere to be found on the oven display, menus, or anywhere in the manual. I don't think it is feature of this oven and I'm deeply disappointed! A web search of other KitchenAid ovens with this feature showed me YouTube videos and product manuals that describe this feature for other ovens, but none of this exists in this model. An online support chat with KitchenAid support said the manual was generic for several models (usually features are discussed if they are available, not left out completely). She also said she "believe(s)" it will automatically convert the settings. This doesn't make sense as the manual states to "reduce your recipe baking temperature by 25°F" and "roasting time should be 15-30% less." None of that sounds automatic. So a feature that "takes the guesswork out of convection cooking" leaves me wondering if it really exists. My wife also is very disappointed about this lack of feature.

- Window not as large as we thought, the glass area is large, but look close at the product photo and you can barely make out that the window is a lot smaller. Still plenty of viewing area.

- Timer tone only has a single beep (will repeat 1 minute later if not turned off).

- The manual talks about a "Rapid Preheating" under convection bake, but following the instructions nothing happened.

- Had to pick out insulation fibers from vents after first use.

- Manual seems to be lacking in details and accuracy.

- Cooking stone nice, but would rather have had cooking thermometer found in discontinued model. KitchenAid doesn't even list a thermometer as an accessory.

- Concerned about cleaning cycle, reviews of old models had problems with sensors and fuses burning out and the glass window shattering.

Recommendations:

I think we can grow to like it, but I'm not ready to recommend it yet. Still very disappointed about the lack of advertised features and feel somewhat cheated.

Comments about KitchenAid 24" Stainless Steel Single Wall Oven:

Just put in the 24 inch single as I live in a duplex with limited space. Convection Roasted my Turkey yesterday with a try at delayed time setting. This is a little tough to do but all in all when I finally got the mechanism to work it cooked fantastically.!!! Love the looks and the interior is strangely larger than my old oven which was a standard single oven. Love the 3 racks. Cannot wait to bake and see how my traditional recipes come out....

Comments about KitchenAid 24" Stainless Steel Single Wall Oven:

I bought this to replace my old in the wall oven that was 42 years old. I want an standard oven plus a convection oven. I have used both types and am very pleased with the results. The convection cooked the pies and browned them very evenly. It is easy to clean the outside plan.

Meets the requirements

Comments about KitchenAid 24" Stainless Steel Single Wall Oven:

This is the only 24" convection oven on the market that was available from my local distributor, so I was somewhat apprehensive, not able to do much comparison shopping. The oven turns out to be exactly what I was looking for, and food cooks quickly and evenly in it. It takes a long time to preheat, and the keypad is a bit difficult to operate (it takes quite a bit of pressure to make the buttons respond), but otherwise it is doing the job I need.

Love this oven, but...

Comments about KitchenAid 24" Stainless Steel Single Wall Oven:

I love using this oven. The temps are even and it warms up quickly. Even the Convection feature is easy to use; I am not a computer user!
The only but is that the first time I used the Se;f-clean feature, the oven blew two fuses and went dead, leaving the door locked, no way to get into the oven. It has been two weeks since that happened. With re;lpacement parts not readily available I am still without use of the oven. Good thing I have others!

This oven replaced our 30 year old Chambers. It is a pleasure to use this oven - the convection roasting cycle makes our meats taste so much better. Wish we had purchased it sooner! Looking forward to doing our Thanksgiving turkey.

Good Oven - Missing Key Advertised Features

By

from Port Tobacco, MD

Verified Buyer

Comments about KitchenAid 24" Stainless Steel Single Wall Oven:

Review is on the KitchenAid KOSC504ESS 24 inch single electric wall oven. Oven appears to be a well-built and high quality. Oven replaced a decades old KitchenAid (KEBS147DWH4) convection oven. Haven't owned the oven long enough to have any feeling about durability. The oven cooks very well and it has both the standard convection and conventional cooking methods. The internal oven thermometer seems to be very sensitive – sensitive to the point that is you place a frozen item in the oven the internal temperature of the oven will drop returning it to the preheating mode. The new oven does not have a probe which is viewed as a major plus. Probe on the older model was a constant source of irritation, frustration, and alarms. With the new oven the blast of hot air when opening the door is much reduced over the older model – a major plus. No complaints regarding cooking with the oven other than the preheating time appears to be at least twice as slow as the older version. Our major complaints regarding this oven are what I consider to be false advertising on KitchenAid's part. Despite what's shown on KitchenAid's website the oven does not have the EasyConvect Conversion System. If this feature is important to you you'll be solely disappointed with the oven. Another much missed feature is the convection "Roast" feature which was available in our older KitchenAid oven and which is listed as a specification in KitchenAid's specification chart as well as in the operator's manual – it simply isn't an option. The convection modes incorporated in the over are Bake, Broil and Proof. There simply is no longer a "Roast" convection feature as stated in the specifications and the owner's manual. Also confusing is that the specification list "Star K" and "Temperature-Senor Baking" yet a search of the operator's manual does not seem to list these "Features." Overall mostly pleased with the oven except for the false information provided by KitchenAid.

Crazy about my Kitchenaid Oven!

By

from Nashville, TN

Verified Buyer

Comments about KitchenAid 24" Stainless Steel Single Wall Oven:

I have had my Kitchenaid oven about 4 months and couldn't be happier! It is beautiful and stylish. So far, it cooks like a dream. I was initially concerned, before I got it, that it might be a convection only oven. Not so! It serves as either a regular oven or as a convection oven. It cooks so evenly and precisely "by the book". It is a wonderful addition to my kitchen and I love it. The only drawback that I have found is that the oven is just a tiny bit less deep than my previous oven. This is only because the fan feature is located on the very back wall of the oven and it juts out a tiny bit into the oven cooking space. This has been of no consequence, except when I try to place an extra large round pizza pan in the oven. I was still able to bake my pizza, anyway. It was just that the pan barely fit. I am so happy and excited about my new oven, though, that this small thing really does not matter. Do not hesitate, if you are thinking of purchasing this oven. It is fabulous.
