This is a fantastic sound bar and I'm extremely happy with it for TV and music. Sound is great. The 3 HDMI inputs on the speaker make it a great fit for my family room set up. Setting it up for the speakers was a breeze... but I still haven't been able to get the system to learn my primary remote. While the speaker is great, the play-fi software is not good in my opinion. It needs a LOT of work. Not many streaming options so far (hopefully more will come soon), the individual mobile apps don't work all that well and the UI isn't all that great. I haven't been able to get the PC app to work yet, and there is no OS X app. I would love to replace my sonos multi-room system with other definitive wireless speakers but thats not happening until the software is at least comparable. That being said... this speaker is great for TV.

I am on my second soundbar and same issue: I have devices that do not play nice with the HDMI passthrough capabilities of the bar. I can't possibly be the only person trying to plug a PS4, Sony bluray player, and WiiU into this bar. Anyone else having similar problems? For some reason the cable box is fine and I never had this issue before when I used a traditional A/V receiver to handle HDMI switching.

Initial problem...but now it's great
By David Daniel

The W Studio sound bar is ideal for those who want a simple set up or have room layout constraints. That's why I bought it. It was easy to set up, but I encountered an issue with the XBox. The video would drop out and I'd only have sound, but after a couple of days I didn't get any video at all. XBox directly to TV worked fine, but not through W Studio. I switched everything up with the other inputs that were working (e.g., cable TV box), switched cables, etc., but no luck. The problem turned out to be the cheap, generic HDMI cables. After buying a good quality, brand name set of HDMI cables, everything started working perfectly. The surround sound is really good, but of course not the same as a true 5.1 set up. Definitely recommended, though.
Sounds great, integrates poorly

I purchased this sound bar last year over the sonos and was impressed by the sound quality and rich bass. However after giving definitive over a year to improve the software and features i have been left wishing i went with a different choice. The power toggle is not discrete and thus can't be programmed with home automation. Okay- i can live with manually turning the unit on and off with a seperate on/off button programmed. However other drawbacks are that when you use the music app that comes with the software the volume does not go very low, which is terrible for napping kids and trying to use the music to fall asleep to. The lowest volume is WAY too loud and skips only to mute. I have called tech support for both and there is no solution on the way for either. It should be noted that I have the mythos speakers and outdoor speakers and usually love DT products, just not this one Going with another brand for the rest of the house
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
This product sounds great! Had some issues with the play-fi, but after reconfiguring my wireless router, it works great. I can't remember the last time it disconnected.
Great sound and Better Customer Service
from Williamsburg, VA, United States
Had an issue with a previously purchased DT soundbar and dealt easily with customer service to sort it out. The final verdict was to just replace it and I was amazed at the new W Studio they sent me! Incredible sound, easy set up and found wifi with no issues. I cant say enough about how well these people treated me in a quick and professional manner and to top it off offer a fantastic product. Pretty sure I see a couple of W9's in my near future!
Excellent sounding bar
This is my first sound bar and I'm so happy I purchased this one.Im in high end music components my whole life and this was great surprise...Movies sound great and music listening after adjustment is very good.Considering the small size and the sound is producing is very pleasant.Any other sound bars are either too bulky or the finish is cheesy imho.Great job Definitive

Sound 9/10 There is no ARC so your smart tv is useless (Netflix,Amazon Prime, YouTube....) If you want sound for the smart apps, you'll need a optical cable, but then it only comes in in stereo. I don't know why they would leave this feature out, they were so close to perfect. Also no Bluetooth?? They have there wifi play which works when it wants, also it's a pain to setup and use. Maybe there going the smartphone route and sell a new model every year and just add 1 update each time. So maybe 2017 the W studio 2 will come out with ARC, then 2018 the W studio 3 will come out with Bluetooth. So in 3 years the actual complete W studio will come out.

Remarkable Sound, Spoken Voice and Movie Enjoyment
By The Careful Listener
from UW Madison WI
After researching a sound system for a master bedroom with a sitting area, I chose the DefinitiveTechnology W Studio. The quality of sound, spoken voice (especially in Night Mode) and movies are exactly what I needed (and hoped they would be,) I'm critical when things don't work, so I was pleased that I had no difficulties setting up the sound bar and subwoofer, using three HDMI inputs from Cable, Apple TV/Roku and a quality Blue Ray Player. With Blue Ray, there is remarkable Digital Dolby and DTS sound reproduction. Yes the W Studio is costly. Yes it is reliable. Yes the remote and the software needs some tweaking and improvement. Fortunately I was able to find a local showroom that was kind enough to unpack the W Studio so that I could audition the unit. I've had only enjoyment since the purchase. The W Studio is in my master bedroom. It's soundstage is somewhere between a 3.1 and a 5.1 system. It is a sound bar and not a 5 speaker system, but if is remarkably good with an acceptable sound field. My home's major sound room has Rotel amps, and pre-amps/receiver and B&W speakers. Comparing systems: A true surround system is preferable, but I can tell you that the W Studio's sound quality and wi fi subwoofer competes very well - especially in the odd angled room it is in.
Solid sound bar poor quality mobile app + remote
from Colorado, United States
I'm fairly happy with the speakers, but the mobile app and the remote really don't measure up. The mobile app connectivity is spotty at best (running on Apple 6) even from inches away. The remote looks nice, but is very light and seems poorly made. The poor construction quality was proven when a <10 inch drop onto the floor caused the case to separate and all the keys to fly out. We had to refer to a photo to get them back in the right spots. This has happened 3 times in the 4 months I've owned it.
Very good sound
from Miami, Florida, Estados Unidos
Was the perfect solution for a great TV sound system not wanting to wire all the livingroom. The sound is broad and fills the room although it is big. Operates easily and looks great on our new renovated apartment. I had experience with the SM55 and the Promonitor 800 and knew that this was going to be a good choice. We are very happy.
