Bose Solo 15 Series II TV Sound System, Model 740928-1110

Flat-screen TVs are made for great picture, not great sound. The solution is the Bose Solo 15 Series II TV sound system, an easy to set up, one-piece speaker featuring advanced Bose technologies. Each word and detail will sound clear at any volume so you’ll no longer find yourself reaching for the remote from scene to scene. With added Bluetooth® connectivity it’s easy to play your music through the speaker too.

Key Features:

  • One-piece speaker delivers dramatically better sound than your TV alone
  • Dialogue mode to hear each word and detail clearly
  • Bluetooth built in, connects with two devices at the same time
  • One connection to your TV
  • Universal remote controls TV, bass, Bluetooth connections and more

Features:

  • The specifics behind the sound
So what's inside this elegant, pedestal-style speaker? Plenty. Speaker arrays positioned at each end of the cabinet work with proprietary TrueSpace® technology for full, spacious sound. A dedicated center speaker—and digital signal processing—enables clear dialogue at any volume. This sound system for TVs delivers more detail and better sound from your favorite TV shows than you've heard before.
  • Setup couldn't be easier
You want your TV shows to shine. But you don't want a ton of equipment to make it happen. That's the beauty of this system—one speaker, one connection to the TV. Plug the speaker into the wall, and enjoy the show. It's that easy to add better sound to most TVs up to 46" and some up to 50".
  • Low notes how you like them
Dramatic programs. Live concerts. Suspenseful series. There are times you just know you'll want a little more bass when watching TV. Go ahead—you can adjust the bass control to your liking with the remote control's bass control button.
  • Universal remote included
Take command of your Blu-ray player, Bluetooth connectivity and gaming system with the included universal remote control. Easily control both the system and most video sources connected to your TV.

I've been purchasing Bose products since the introduction of the 901's, which were my first purchase in the 1970's. I purchased a pair of used 901's, and since then, all items I've purchased have been pretty much the same, excellent sound for what it's designed for, engineering that goes into producing the product and their customer support. I've had approx. 30 different Bose items over the last 40 years and have enjoyed all of them. Now, I'm not going to say that every item was perfect but 99% of the items were. This is perfect for our bedroom. Not too much base, which I control, and it easily mates with my Xfinity remote.

When you think of Bose, you think of quality sound systems that produce a room-filling sound. Unfortunately, that sound can come at the price of a rather difficult setup. It is the setup part that the Solo 15 Series II seeks to remedy with its one cable design: connect the device to your TV via one cable and you will instantly receive better quality sound than your TV alone could ever provide you. The sound is exactly what you would expect from a Bose product: quality, clear sound that will fill the room. The clear dialogue promised by the Solo 15 is not exactly delivered as, for some programs, I still find myself needing to use closed captioning; it is difficult to determine if this is a problem with the way I hear or with the way the Bose produces sound. If, like me, you have difficulty hearing soft-spoken dialogue over a low end tone, this speaker may not fix that problem. The lack of manual programming adjustments (e.g., a cinema setting or a sports setting) is a concern and it seems like an oversight that something of this sort was not included, but this is not necessarily a major disadvantage if you have an allover acceptable sound output. This is true in the case of the Bose, but individual output settings would still have been a nice feature to had, given that they are frequently available on lower quality systems. But, this lone positive does not outweigh the numerous negatives of the system overall, most of them related to user interface: What is the upper reach of the volume on the speaker? Where is the volume set at presently? Is the mute function on? All of these are great questions, and all of them are impossible to answer because the Solo 15 has no frontal display, other than the single light to inform you the device is on or off. There is no display on your television, so you are left guessing at everything. This is a MAJOR design flaw, and one I am surprised no one at Bose noticed during alpha testing. In this regard, it makes perfect sense that there are no specialized output settings available: how you would ever know which one you had selected? While the general sound is good, the bass setting is weak (if you even know if you are adjusting it; again, no display), to the point that the Solo 15 has almost no low end tones. This bring up another major problem: if you have a blue tooth ready subwoofer, you cannot connect it to the Bose system: if you attempt to pair the two devices, it will effectively crash the unit, requiring you to unplug the Solo 15 and restart the entire system. Given that Bose has a number of blue tooth capable satellite speakers which are available for individual purchase, you would think they would be compatible. Alas, this does not appear to be the case. Speaking of the blue tooth setting, it is unreliable at best. If you have paired a device, such as a phone or tablet, it is pure serendipity whether or not you will receive effective audio playback. You essentially must repeat the pairing process each time you connect a device, and you are left with the unfortunate result that any time you activate blue tooth it is virtually impossible to deactivate it without disconnecting the Solo 15 from its power source. As the blue tooth was a major factor in deciding to purchase this unit, both on the assumption that it worked easily and that it would allow me to connect additional satellites, the fact that it does not work as easily as one might expect, to the point that it barely works at all, is greatly disappointing. One also wonders about the wisdom of including such a clunky and unattractive universal remote. In an era when just about every TV remote can be configured as a universal remote, and there are third party remotes available for purchase which include such things as touchscreens, one is left to wonder what is unique or useful about this particular remote. I have not used it myself except to control the volume on the Solo 15, but I would prefer not to use it for even that much, as it is bulky and uncomfortable to hold. Frankly, my real desire would be to program my existing universal remote to work with the Solo 15, but this is not possible because the control code is unavailable anywhere that I have seen, and I'm frankly not willing to spend the time it would take to figure out which code might work with the speaker. As such, Bose has locked me in to using their remote, even though my brand new TV came with a far superior one to the Solo 15's remote. Finally, the port for the toslink cable is unsecure: the optical audio cable is not held in place firmly, to the point that it will either fall out of the slot on its own or will be displaced within the slot. As such, I have found myself having to rig a support to rest the cable on so that it will remain in place at all times. I do not know if this is a design or manufacturing flaw, but it is certainly not a problem with the cable as the same cable fits securely in other digital optical ports on other devices, so I am left to conclude that the problem is with the Solo 15 itself. Overall, the marked improvement in sound versus your standard TV speakers, but I am unconvinced that the Solo 15 is the best speaker available on the market, much less the best available from Bose. While the upper end sound is wonderful, the design flaws enumerated above, along with the fact that speaker will randomly cease to work when some devices are used (including those connected directly to your TV via hdmi 2.0 cables, e.g., a PS4) lead me to conclude that this was a poor attempt at an all-in-one speaker solution, and is certainly well below the quality and expertise that we have come to expect from the Bose corporation. While I will be retaining my soundbar for now as technically it does produce sound, when it is time to upgrade, I doubt that I will give serious consideration any Bose speakers in the future.

Comments about Bose Solo 15 Series II TV Sound System:

This was my Christmas gift 2 years ago, I replaced my Bose big surround system I won at work with this system. I wanted a simple sound system that was easy to install and easy to use. It looks nice to under my 40" TV. The sound is topical great Bose sound. I have been very pleased with the system. My only wish is that it was Bluetooth compatible. I would like to listen to my music library on my Android phone when I am not watching TV. Also, the remote control always walks out of the room. With out the remote control you have no way of using the speaker. Bose, could you please make your Bose app work the speaker from my smart phone. It would be a nicer experience and add value to the speaker.

My husband and I bought the Bose solo for Christmas. The sound is finaminal, it was the best. However for the price of it I certainly expected it to last longer for 3 years. Do not think I will buy another.

Terrific Sound....

Comments about Bose Solo 15 Series II TV Sound System:

I recently purchased a Bose® Solo 15 Series II speaker unit to go with my JVC 48" in my bedroom. The setup was a breeze, although I will say that I had problems in programming the remote, but a quick call to Bose and their helpful techs walked me through the setup on the remote. When I turned the sound on I was pleasantly surprised - WOW! What a difference in the sound! While the JVC HDTV is a great product, the internal speakers leave a lot to be desired sound wise. The Bose just blows it all away. Plus, with this speaker I have the advantage of being able to increase the Bass is I want. I did not change the controls much - if any, as the factory settings were excellent and contoured the sound for my bedroom. I would venture to say that this small unit sounds as good as the system that I have on my Home Theater. I have always been super pleased Bose products, and will say that everything sound wise I own is a Bose product. Thanks for making such a great product at a reasonable cost!

Great sounding, simple, great looking

Comments about Bose Solo 15 Series II TV Sound System:

Just bought a new Sony 4K TV, and the Solo 15 II for sound. We have a relatively small living room, and while we are quite picky about sound quality, we also needed to keep the system small, clean, neat and overall aesthetically appropriate to the room (again, we don't have a family room or basement TV room). The look is FANTASTIC and the sound is as good as you are going to get (IMO) short of a full 5.1 surround system. The Solo has GREAT bass response (OK, not subwoofer bass, but very similar 'good traditional stereo system bass' (i.e., deep, full, BALANCED) but not earth shaking sub bass. No problem... GREAT One small issue I had was that the Roku was sending a full 5.1 D+ something or the other signal through the HDMI to the TV and then through the optical audio out to the Solo. It worked, but I was getting a slight 'audio spooling' every 10 minutes or so. I manually set the ROKU to PCM stereo (if I have that title right), and PERFECT. Beautiful clarity to the midrange and treble, and again, very balanced sound, with just enough rumble and 'audio spread' to at least somewhat mimic a full surround sound system. And....... the remote! Best remote ever! Runs my cable box, my ROKU, my TV and of course the Solo. Simplest set-up I've ever experienced, and it WORKS! Everything turns on and off together, and it even has a separate button in case the on and off becomes unsinked (I guess that isn't a work, but you get it). Yes, you are paying a bit of premium for the Bose name, but gosh, if you want very good sound, and a very simple set-up, and care anything about aesthetics, I would HIGHLY recommend this unit. We are just thrilled with it!
