Do not dishwasher. Terrible quality
By Mel Moore

Comments about KitchenAid 5-Qt. Tilt-Head Burnished Flat Beater:
Do not dishwash or over wash this product. Will turn black and tarnish. Terrible quality. Not sure what to buy to replace because the other options chip. So sad!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Burnished beater a dud!
By Diane the knitter
from Vassar Michigan
I just bought the 7 quart mixer and couldnt wait to use, but the dough was discolored and so was my wash cloth. Very disappointed with this I cant believe you would put inferior parts with this great mixer. You will need to buy a replacement beater if you buy this mixer.

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BUY
from Birmingham, AL
This came with my kitchenaid, and as all of the other reviews said after one single wash by hand grey stuff began to cover my entire hands and the paper towels I was drying it with. It is extremely frustrating and when I spoke to kitchenaid customer service their solution was to "replace the accessory" which was 100% unhelpful and useless. There should not be a product that has this issue to so many people yet you cannot offer any sort of solution. Save your time and money & do not buy this product and if you receive it with your kitchenaid mixer try to switch it to a ceramic one immediately.
Bad finish makes paddle unusable!
After the finish wore off of my original paddle attachment I came to this website to try and find a replacement, only to find that the same problem keeps occurring with this product. After washing, the finish wears off, leaving the surface of the paddle dull and oxidized, which leaves gray, streaky residue in your dough. Therefore the paddle is no longer useable. Since it seems Kitchen Aide hasn't fixed this problem with the burnished finish and the reviews of the coated paddle attachments complain of the coating chipping off, what options exist for a replacement paddle attachment?

I bought my mixer three weeks ago and I love this burnished finish because it seems as though dough sticks less to it. However after the first use and wash the finish comes off of it. It leaves a blackish grey residue now and it just doesn't seem very safe at all. I'm extremely heartbroken over it.

One use and already ruined
from Waco, TX
My husband surprised me with a Kitchenaid stand mixer after several years of hints. I love it except this flat beater. After using it to make cookie dough and washing it, all of the coating came off. Now I have a mixer that I am afraid to use because I'm worried more of the coating will come off in my batter and dough as well as on my hands, washcloth and hand towel. Kitchenaid - PLEASE redesign this beater.

As an avid baker I'd been wanting a kitchenaid mixer for years, finally got one. After one use and wash after making cookies with the flat beater, all the finish came completely off and rendered this attachment completely useless (unless I want my cookies to look like they belong in a black and white movie). Can't even pick up the flat beater without my hands getting covered in dark grey powder
after dishwashing, it has black gunk and stain in the dough
from Jacksonville, Al
I did not know why my dough becomes grey and noticed that the color came from this beater. Because coated one chipped like egg shells and remained in the dough, I bought this beater and now it changes the color of the dough into grey. Even whenever I touches this beater, black stains come out of it.
Do not put in top of dishwasher-silver comes off
By Pen Pen
from Lewisville, TX
I put this on the top rack of my dishwasher. all the silver came off and then when I picked it up grey rubbed all over my skin. Its ruined. I cant believe this is not dishwasher safe. I can not use it now because I dont want the grey stuff going into my food.
