TP-Link RE580D- Best solution yet for my Wi-Fi Dead Spots!!
By Gary M
from Hot Springs, Arkansas
Comments about TP-Link AC1900 Wi-Fi Range Extender:
Our house is a two-story, with the internet cable modem and router located in one corner of the lower level. My worst dead spots are in the upstairs master bedroom (for video streaming at night), and my wife's computer desk in the laundry room (for shopping!!). The RE580D works great with my (1900AC) router to solve these two worst locations challenges! The RE580D has a size and form similar to a typical router, and it far out-performs the other, smaller, less obvious alternatives I have tried. It is extremely easy to set up, using the WPS button or manual setup. You can set the RE580D up in high speed mode, using either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz band for connecting to the main router and using the remaining (5GHz or 2.4GHz) band for the extended network connection to your devices. The RE580D also has five gigabit Ethernet ports, supported by either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz band from the router. The RE580D uses the same channels as the as the primary router for each band (2.4GHz or 5GHz) in extending the network, so it can take some trial and error to find the true sweet spot for locating the RE580D for optimum performance. The on-board "Intelligent Signal Indicator" LED is helpful, but I used InSSIDer to measure the actual signal strength at my key computer locations as I adjusted the RE580D location. I have found that placing the RE580D in my bedroom TV cabinet and connecting my bedroom HTPC directly to the RE580D Ethernet port (using the 5GHz feed) is the best solution for maximizing coverage for all problem devices and computers. Using this setup, my file transfer speeds are 112.5 Mbps (write) and 298.9Mbps (read) when testing file transfer speeds by writing to a test folder on my network server. The (extended) router signal has improved dramatically to -25dB with the RE580D located and used in this manner. No more buffering delays! My wife's computer speeds also improve from 9.6Mbps/18.9Mbps (on the original router network) to 38.5Mbps/56.8Mbps with the RE580D. It's Great!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Excellent Range, Easy setup
from Minneapolis, MN
I received this unit as part of the TP-Link Beta program. I am using this range extender in conjunction with by archer c-3200 router. This makes for a killer combination. I had one area on the 3rd story of my home where I was unable to get a reliable and fast internet connection. After setting this up according to the excellent set of instructions that came with it I now enjoy super fast internet in all areas of my home with ZERO dead zones. So far this range extender is working great. In addition to being an excellently working device its also very aesthetically pleasing., easy to install and configure and works very well with my other TP-Link gear I have installed. This unit should work equally well with non TP-link devices also. TP link has again hit it out of the park with this one. I cant wait to see what they come out with next!
Please extend your range! You family will thank you later!!

TP-Link RE580D AC1900 Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Range ExtenderStarting with setup of the access point, it was easy to understand and get going. The quick web based setup helped me right along. With the Dual-band support all of my devices worked well while connected. I decided to try this in the garage to extend the range into another room and maybe outside for when I am doing yard work.I did how ever use a new name for the SSID so I knew to which WiFi I was connected to. This would give me a way to test this new access point independent of the current WiFi I had. This one was named "Back_Deck", anyway I have been using it for a streaming station out in back yard as well as a bunch of kids connecting to it with the school's Ipads, and laptops. They do play a lot of games and constantly watch YouTube videos, the RE580D held up the demands of all the content we could throw at it, and yet still wanted more. After testing, I have found that the Dual-Band is really a great new thing, with 2 distinct bands all devices seem to almost have their own path back and forth to internet. We have over 25 wireless devices and I am sure most people with larger families are pushing the limits of the current routers and adding an access point will make a huge difference. Overall I am very satisfied with this product and would recommend for family members.I am just a normal DAD just like you. If I can set the new TP-Link products up you can too, and they just flat out work.

Quality product. Easy Setup. Good Coverage, Range, & Speed.
from New York, NY
This is a review of a free product received from TP-LINK for evaluation and feedback. The RE580D is the best looking and best performing range extender I've ever seen. In this case the saying "you get what you pay for" is indeed true. I've tested loads of cheap range extenders and, in retrospect, many were just time and money wasters. Less expensive range extenders simply don't deliver the performance of the RE580D. The RE580D stands out and is in a class by itself. None of the other range extenders I've come across delivers an equivalent Wi-Fi power output, coverage, range and speed. Plus the RE580D is reliable and very easy to install and use. The RE580D closely resembles an attractive high-end router. In fact, my communication engineer buddies mistook the RE580D for a new router. The dimensions are 9.4"x6.4"x1.7". Front and sides are silver. Top has a black jewel elegant pattern. There are three handsome 5" adjustable/removable dual-band antennas (square, tapered, black matte finish). 5 blue triangle indicator LEDs are on the top. No fingerprint problems anywhere. In the retail box are an optional plastic vertical base stand, a "Positioning the Product" card, a 1-page 2-sided 13"x17" "Quick Installation Guide" and a handy 4' CAT.5E data cable. Indents on the bottom permit optional wall mounting. The rating of the included power adapter is 12 Volts, 2.5 Amps. With Wi-Fi 802.11ac devices the RE580D performance was noteworthy, in terms of signal strength, coverage, range and speed. My family's new 802.11ac tablets and laptops are now operating at near 200 Mbps speed in every room of my large brick 2-story house. It's as if they were magically actually directly hard-wired connected to the cable modem on the first-floor. All this gear works at, and usually above, my subscribed cable speed of 200 Mbps. That's a good reason for only buying new equipment which is 802.11ac compatible. My family is very happy with the improved Internet connectivity and speed.

I've been using TP-Link networking products almost exclusively lately as I've been getting great performance with them. My latest wireless router is TP-Link's Archer C3200. The router is certainly fast. Though I do not get to max it out when using the Internet, it handily serves up requests from all of my household devices (20+) at or above my 50Mbps. One problem is that it is located in the corner on the first floor of my home. Due to this I get spotty coverage on the opposite side of the house on the second floor. I contemplated relocating the router to a more central position, but there is no way to do it subtly. As such, a repeater was the way to go.I have been using an TP-Link RE210 without issue. It's setup wasn't too bad, though there were a few hiccups and once it was setup, I never had to touch it again. More and more I have been streaming videos in my house from a central file server. It seemed we may have been maxing out the bandwidth on the RE210. Enter the TP-Link RE580D, the RE580D more than doubles the bandwidth of the RE210. Whereas the RE210 supports up to 433Mbps on 5GHz and up to 300Mbps on 2.4GHz, the RE580D supports up to 1300Mbps on 5GHz and up to 600Mbps on 2.4GHz. The RE580D is the fastest repeater available. As a power user, I am never a fan of the quick setup wizards offered by network component manufacturers. There are always features or tweaks that I need to do that are outside of the quick setup process. However, the RE580D proved me wrong. I plugged the repeater in, connected my laptop to it and within a few steps, and about 5 minutes in total, the repeater was up and running exactly as I needed it.I've been running this for about a month and it has been rock solid. The speeds are more than adequate to stream multiple video streams simultaneously without issue. Some other reviewers have noted that if you choose to use the same SSIDs as your route
Amazing range extender for sure!

I have used many range extender trying to get rid of dead spots or slow connection so my kids can stream movies anywhere in our house but none do justice to the RE580D. I was amazed as how easy this was to hook up and configure. The range is amazing. I now have no dead spots and full bars even many feet outside of my home. All of the wall plug extenders that i have only had one RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet plugs but the RE580D has 5. Its like having a second full router in the house now. I like that this unit can be used on a desktop in flat position or you can add the included foot to stand the unit upright on its side. It also has wall mount holes on the back of the unit to free up room on your computer desk if needed. If you need to extend your wireless network then the RE580D is guaranteed to do the trick. This unit would also make a great Christmas present for a friend or family member that needs the extra wireless range and coverage. This is an honest review submitted as part of a free sample program.
