DOES NOT COVER 27" OPENING
from Mason, MI
Comments about GE 27" Slate Built-In Microwave Trim Kit:
I only bought GE because I wanted slate... Boy was that a mistake! I bought PEB7226EHES (microwave) and THIS trim kit for my 27" opening. The [way overpriced] piece of plastic trim is only 26 3/4" wide, so the "built in" look GE promises, is a lie. I have an entire kitchen full of slate appliances with ZERO options for an actual "built in" look for my microwave - in my beautiful new construction home. DO NOT BUY GE for slate because you can't get any other brand to match! I wish I had bought any other brand in black stainless - at least then I would have options. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! A person buys a 27" trim kit for a 27" opening expecting the trim kit to cover the opening...
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Perfect accessory for a stylish kitchen and makes the micro oven look bigger.

Easy to Install
The trim kit is easy to install with the help of a handyman. It is is good match for the microwave. However, it was a replacement part. The first kit shipped had a blemish defect. The big box store sent a replacement. Great store to deal with as a customer.

We bought 2 months ago for our remodeled kitchen and are very pleased with how it looks. Looks like it was custom made.
Trim piece open at top - mounting screws visible
from Baton Rouge, LA, United States
This trim piece would be ok if the oven were mounted on the wall with top of trim higher than eye level. Unfortunately, our oven is mounted in a cabinet enclosure that is lower. The top of the trim is less than 4 feet above the floor, so standing in front of the microwave, there is a large opening above the trim and you can see all of the mounting hardware, screws, etc on the interior of the trim. The mounting instructions state that you shouldn't block this opening. You need to leave at least one inch clearance so heat can escape. I am now forced to try making some sort of trim piece (that will look good) that I can attach to my cabinet above the metal trim piece that will block this view of the hardware, without blocking the escape of heat and creating a fire hazard. I wish the trim had been designed in a different way, maybe like our previous trim piece that had slots in it for heat escape.
Fit not forgiving; Alternate installation method
The surround is OK, although aesthetically not as pleasing as the frame for the previous models. The problem we encountered was with the installation directions. The instructions have you measure the center of the interior of the cabinet floor and transfer it to the cabinet frame. They assume that the interior measurements of the cabinet are centered with the cabinet opening. Our cabinet was not, and the 1/4 inch difference made installation very tight and difficult. We suggest that you find the center of the cabinet opening, and transfer that opening to the bottom of the cabinet with a line (regardless of whether it is centered horizontally within the cabinet). Then use the template to determine the correct placement of the slot that anchors the back of the microwave. The rest of the instructions can be followed as given. This plastic and metal framing cost 75% as much as the microwave. Hardly a bargain, but necessary to complete the built-in look of the appliance, which is why we rate it so low in value.
