This replaced my ceran top. I SO missed cooking with gas and wanted something like we used to have. It was difficult finding a gas stove with 4 separate and light cooking "grates" instead of one or two HEAVY ones. I just couldn't lift some of the others safely for cleaning. This one was just right. The "grates" are strong enough for the cast iron I use, but light enough to be picked up for cleaning. They fit well on the stove and do not slide around. I love the way it cooks and is easy to control. I like that it has simmer options. The oven is nice and roomy. So the features, looks, and ease of use and cooking get 5. The cons: I really don't like the broiler. It is not placed well at all - literally on the floor; you have to lay on the floor to get anything into it and hope you can squeeze it in because the door will not open all the way (the bottom hits the floor on a tilt). The door may or may not shut when you get your meat into it. The old broiler pan I have will not fit in it - in fact, nothing I have will fit it. I honestly thought I was getting a storage drawer (which the size is perfect for, and which I need). So the broiler gets a 2 to 3 and I won't be using it. The oven venting part gets a 3.5 to 4 - it vents out the front and so the handles and door get super hot when baking. I don't remember the old style stove/ovens doing this. Cleaning: The material on the top (other than the grates) gets a 3. I don't know what's up with the top - it looks and feels super easy to clean, but it's a dust and grease magnet and when I clean the top, it just sort of streaks, leaves grease (even with soap and water). I'm not sure what to do about that - read the book again to see if there's a secret to this part. OK, so why a 5 when there's a few 3 in there? It is great on the cooking and controlling the heat, the grates, looks, quality, and price. The cons - I won't use the broiler and I'll get used to venting and hopefully discover the secret to cleaning the top.

I built an addition for my elderly mother with a 36" range opening in cabinets and moved her from NJ to help her, as her vision and hearing are failing. Since she is a gourmet French chef, I got her 36" commercial gas range. It is very heavy duty, a last a lifetime range. It turned out that she had difficulty cooking on it, burning stuff, due to it having very large, 30,000 BTU burners, double or more the size of a regular range and very thick stainless steel, weighing in at around 500 pounds, including 3 continuous cast iron grates that weigh about 150 pounds by themselves! She got angry and went looking for another range. Why does it cost an additional $500-1000 more for an identical 36" range vs a 30" range?!!! I wanted continuous grates, at least, so she wouldn't need to lift heavy pots and pans, just slide them over. She went out and bought this unit, that has too much electronic controls, and if she has any problems, it will most certainly involve those electronic components! She wouldn't spend the extra ridiculous amounts to fit our 36" opening, so now there are 3" per side gaps between range and cabinets! I hate to even look at the range, too late now to make it a 30" opening! The amount of electronics, super thin stainless steel that dents very easily, and the 36" range upcharge is not justified in my view! So, she gets NONE of the features I thought would help her. Although, she could have gotten continuous grates for about the same price as this range, the 36" upcharge was more than she would pay for a range, so 30" was selected. I wasn't there and would have at least gotten the grates I wanted. She is doing better with standard size burners, as she was used to using before, I will hang on to the commercial range for me and let her use this one. All major appliances these days have too much electronics that fail and are very expensive to replace, when broken. I also got her a stackable, full size, washer and dryer that has too many settings, and doesn't clean too well, and some cycles take almost 2 hours to complete. But that's another story.

Bought this about two months ago and although it works fine, I am having trouble getting used to the large (quick boil) and small (simmer) burners. Also the burner caps are already pitting and I plan to call to see if they will send me new ones.

Great Basic Gas Range
from Ashburn, VA, United States
My gas range is perfect for everyday use. It has great features (oven light, clock, broiling drawer) and when I use it for baking it cooks evenly. The stove-top has good burners (boils water really quick).
