We had to replace our 20-year-old GE refrigerator, and due to space limitations, this model was the only one to choose from in the updated french door style. We did not want to go back to the space-limiting side-by-side. We just had this refrigerator delivered yesterday, and so far we love it. I did read customer reviews, and I see that this model has been discontinued as of February 2016, but I'm fine with that, since I got a fabulous deal at Home Depot. I absolutely LOVE the slate finish--NO fingerprints! And magnets will adhere....a big bonus over stainless. There are, however, 4 design issues that we have already noticed, that are really just minor inconveniences, but enough to warrant a re-design: 1: Makes a high-pitched siren-like sound at all times. I don't think there's anything wrong with the actual unit--I think it's the powering of all the "new" features I didn't have 20 years ago. 2: Display lettering is not back-lit. Yes, there is a night light to turn on and illuminate underneath the spigot, but in a darkened kitchen, what good is that, when you can't see which buttons you are pressing? 3: Drip "tray" under water/ice dispenser is not removable. When there is an overflow of water that drains backwards, it just drains into a small crevice....the drip plate is not removable. I'm worried about standing water underneath after a period of time. 4: Must open both upper doors to pull out meat/deli drawer. This is one large drawer on the bottom with a center divider. Overall, though, these are minor things, because I had a limited size selection, and I will ONLY buy GE. Their products are high quality and are made to last!

The refrigerator always had a bit of a noisy fan, but not tooooo bad. Lived with it. Ice maker makes a HUGE amount of noise in the middle of the night, water shut off sound really loud.... lived with it. We didn't get the extended warranty as we figured 5-7 years, we'd want a new refrigerator anyway. Well, 14 months after buying the fan seems to have died completely. We have put whole kitchens worth of GE appliances in 5 different homes. There's always been problems. Brand new dishwasher was bashed in on the INSIDE (how does that happen? They sent a tech to fix rather than send a new one). We replaced one refrigerator after another. Last time, the tech left gouges in our wood floor from his tools.I want to buy American, but... GE has a very robust repair section for a reason. They need them. Last time I buy GE. Even selling my stock. Bye, bye GE.

Comments about GE Slate French-Door Bottom Freezer Refrigerator:
We are on our third fridge in a months time. This model is fully working and seems to meet our needs. It certainly raises concerns about the longevity if we had to many issue out of the gate.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Looks amazing in the new kitchen, love that I didn't have to have a super deep fridge front to back - I've always had a hard time reaching all the way into the back of deeper refrigerators being a tiny person.

Love the counter depth... really blends nicely with the cabinets and counters. The slide away half-shelf is perfect for wine and larger bottles. I like the meat drawer being kind of hidden on the bottom as it always looks a little unsightly to me when exposed. the dark stainless finish doesn't show fingerprints or smudges like standard stainless, and really highlights the refrigerators beauty. The VERY shallow shelves inside the left door (water dispenser door) were a little odd to use, but I eventually found things that I could store in there. Overall, GREAT PRODUCT!

Overall a good refrigerator. Ice is separated in its own compartment. The countertop depth makes it deceiving. Inside is shallow and cannot support large pots and plates.

I just had my refrigerator installed. Happy so far! Looks great, I am confident it will operate just as well.
Works, but Very cheap parts for the price

I bought this about 4 months ago for a new home I was building. EXTREAMLY cheap plaits parts Biggest issue the roll out freezer drawer falls off the track literally every time you pull it. Was not built to the right specifications so it dosent fit on the tracks right and dosent roll. If you aren't careful and hold the bin at both ends with two hangs you'll break the cheap plastic as you pull it out. Don't pull from the middle.
Just bought, Great so far.

Just purchased this refrigerator to replace a side by side. It appears to have more space, and the counter depth offers a better footprint with more clearance for a smaller kitchen. So far, great.

I bought this when I had my house built. I like it overall but, do not think the door shelving is adequate. The shelves are not adaptable to most items. they are too small to insert many stand up items like ketchup mustard etc. Not happy with the ice distribution, it spits out and goes all over even if you have a cup underneath it.
Tons of room compared to my old side by side

Bought this cabinet depth fridge just before Thanksgiving. Love it, lots of room for pizzas, etc in the freezer (compared to my old side by side). Fridge section is also spacious. Only "odd" thing is the ice maker is loud dropping cubes, but once you get used to it you're OK.
Great countertop option

I gave it a four star because the top drawer in the freezer section does not slide well to the extent that it is practically unusable. Otherwise it is a great buy.
