What Is a Built-In Dishwasher?
Look no further for everyday sanitizing and unbeatable cleaning power—it's all within a built-in dishwasher. These are some of the most common household dishwashers, though you may not have heard them described as "built-in". That means they're installed under your counter and into your cabinetry, all while being connected to your plumbing. While each is connected to your kitchen in the same way, many of these appliances have different abilities. At higher price ranges, you'll find exciting features—things you wouldn't have seen in machines years ago. Each built-in dishwasher takes advantage of all the space within it and brings high-temperature modern sanitizing power. Explore choices from trusted brands like Bosch and LG.
Smart Features, Low Noise Levels & More
These appliances are getting smarter and smarter with every evolution. If you're building a smart home or love having everything available on your phone, look for a built-in dishwasher made with Wi-Fi connectivity. You'll be able to check or adjust all kinds of things from your phone, from starting the machine to knowing whether the cycle has stopped. Even start or delay the start of your cycle with some models; it's all about the functionality you're looking for. Maybe lower noise levels take precedence over all else—quiet built-in dishwashers are important for families with young children, as well as anyone who wants to keep the noise level to a minimum. If that's the case, look for low decibel (dBA) ratings. The quietest ones are barely audible and often aren't louder than a quiet conversation. That means you, your children and any downstairs neighbors will barely hear it turn on.
There's more to built-in dishwashers than smart technology and volume. One of the most important factors to consider is how much can fit inside. That's why many models have moving racks or third racks that take advantage of as much space as possible. The upper, third rack is a great place to clean serving spoons and even silverware, while models with moving lower racks can make room for tall glassware or tall cookware. It all depends on what you make and what needs to be cleaned. This extreme amount of space sets them apart from portable models and drawer dishwashers.
Choose Your Own Style
No two of these appliances are the same, and one of the factors that sets them apart is external design. While stainless steel is always popular and pairs well with other kitchen appliances, there are other options out there. White, black and black stainless steel are always in rotation, as are panel-ready models. With panel-ready versions, you hide your appliance in your cabinetry and cover it with a custom panel. Have this panel match your existing cabinetry (or don't)—it's all up to your design preferences.
