Traeger Grills & Smokers: Flavor Without Limits

When it comes to burger flipping and rib smoking, things can get pretty heated. One of the most hotly contested topics within the barbecue community is fuel. Old souls tend to prefer the ultra-smokiness of classic charcoal, while others still love the convenience of the modern gas version (which lights with just the turn of a dial). And for over 30 years, there's been a new kid on the block when it comes to barbecuing over flame: Traeger grills.

Joe Traeger first invented the company's signature cooker, the wood pellet grill, back in 1986. And since then, they've kept a strong hold on this flavor-infused heating method. With a pellet smoker, users burn flavorful apple, cherry, mesquite, hickory, or other wood pellets to give their foods a unique taste that can't be found anywhere else. No gas fuel can hope to compete, and no charcoal briquette can manage to be as delicate.

Temperature Control

Ultra-smoky flavor isn't the only thing that sets these Traeger grills ahead of the pack. Instead of just adding fire to increase temperature (the way a classic smoker works), these backyard cookers have a precise heating system that can go from low-and-slow to searing hot quickly. Users can set their heat level to the exact degree, giving you the freedom to bake pies, braise meats, sizzle steaks, and smoke ribs.

The secret ingredient to achieving this level of temperature precision is in their fuel and fuel combustion system. Instead of just dropping pellets into a flame, users load pellets into a high-capacity hopper. From here, the hopper delivers fuel to the augur, which is propelled toward the flame where they combust. A fan blows the heat and fumes up toward the grates, cooking the food. The rate at which the augur moves and the fan together control your heat level. Then all you have to do is walk away (or watch) as your foods cook.

New Tech, Old School Style

While Traeger grills can look like classic smokers thanks to their cylindrical body and (sometimes) chimney, these cookers are packed with modern technology. From their digital temperature control to newer devices designed with WiFIRE® Treager grills push barbecuing further and further with every new model.

WiFIRE® enabled cookers allow pitmasters to connect to their smoker from anywhere, whether you're lounging on the sofa or driving around town. Perfect for low-and-slow cooks, WiFIRE® allows users to adjust their smoker via a smartphone app. The app is even compatible with virtual assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant—meaning you can check on your food with just a command.
