You think Best Buy's a big box? THIS is a big box

June 19, 2012 | Mark Reilly

While Best Buy Co. Inc. scrambles to reinvent itself in a smaller package, other electronics retailers are pushing ahead with big-box stores — really big ones.

The New York Times has an interesting profile of Abt Electronics, which operates a 350,000-square-foot store (nearly 10 times the size of a Best Buy big box).

It fills the space with amusement park-like features such as a flight simulator and an aquarium that's used to keep children occupied and test video equipment. It also bakes cookies for customers and will negotiate on prices to compete with online rivals.
