Are YETIs Dishwasher Safe?
Learn How to Clean YETI Cups and Drinkware
Whether you're shopping for insulated beverage holders or researching the best ways to care for the YETI drinkware you already own, you might have wondered, "Can you put a YETI in the dishwasher?"
The short answer is: Yes, YETI Ramblers and lids are dishwasher safe. The term Rambler includes all of YETIs drinkware. So your YETI water bottles, jugs, mugs, tumblers, and cups are all dishwasher safe.
Why Do Some Websites Suggest Hand-Washing YETIs?
A few years back, YETI themselves recommended hand-washing all of their drinkware. However, they've changed their tune, confirming that all YETI drinkware can go in the dishwasher. Each of these beverage holders uses double-wall vacuum insulation to keep your drinks hot or cold throughout the day. The out-dated thought was that the high temperatures inside a dishwasher could damage the vacuum seal. If this were true (it's not), the Ramblers would lose their ability to insulate and become just a run-of-the-mill cup.
After countless inquiries into the matter, YETI decided to put their products to the test. The results were clear: washing a YETI in the dishwasher is perfectly safe. Every YETI Rambler is made with rugged 18/8 stainless steel. This allows them to withstand hot water with ease. So even the high temperatures inside a dishwasher won't damage your YETI drinkware or reduce their ability to insulate.
Are YETI lids dishwasher safe?
Yes, YETI lids are dishwasher safe, too. However, YETI recommends placing the lids on the top shelf of your dishwasher. It's also a good idea to disassemble your lid, removing the gaskets and any other detachable parts, before tossing them in the dishwasher. Doing so allows the dishwasher to get into every nook and cranny for a more thorough cleaning.
How to Clean a YETI Cup or Water Bottle
- Step 1:
Remove the lid from your YETI cup and disassemble it. Make sure to remove the gaskets, too. Check here if you need help with disassembly. - Step 2:
Place the gasket(s) and any small pieces in your dishwasher's silverware basket. These small pieces include the MagSlider, the magnets and rubber sleeve from the Stronghold Lid, and the straw from the Straw Cap. - Step 3:
Place the disassembled lid on the top rack of your dishwasher. - Step 4:
Place the YETI cup, water bottle, or jug anywhere you have space for it. - Step 5:
Run the Dishwasher. - Step 6:
Remove all items from the dishwasher and make sure they're fully dry. Then carefully reassemble the lid.
If you don't have a dishwasher or want to quickly wash your YETI Rambler tumbler, you can hand wash with mild dish soap.
- For the Straw Cap, soak the straw and the lid in soapy water for up to two hours. If you notice grime around the pressure valve, gently run water over the cap and gently lift the gaskets around the valve with a finger. Let the running water rinse the grime away but DO NOT remove the gasket around the pressure valve.
When stubborn stains from coffee or other beverages cling to your cup, deep cleaning might be necessary. YETI's deep cleaning tablets work great. But you can also make do with a little bit of baking soda. Simply add a couple of tablespoons into the cup or water bottle and fill it with warm water. Then use a brush to scrub the stain. If that doesn't work try a ½ cup of hydrogen peroxide with 2 tablespoons of baking soda and sub the stain away. Thanks to their kitchen-grade stainless steel, your YETI cup or bottle shouldn't rust. However, in the unlikely event that it does, a stainless steel cleaner will clear the rust away in a hurry.
Yes, YETIs are Dishwasher Safe
Despite what you may read elsewhere, all YETI drinkware is dishwasher safe. Just be sure to disassemble their lids before giving them a wash. You can find detailed instructions on how to do so on YETI's site. The lids should go on the upper rack of your dishwasher with the smaller components in the silverware basket. Your YETI tumbler, bottle, or cup can go anywhere that you have space for it.
