A Charcoal Tool for the Ages: Weber Charcoal Rake

Gourmet barbecue chefs don't poke their flaming briquettes with sticks. Upgrade to a multifunctional charcoal rake that will have your briquettes glowing in no time, all with a little help from Weber. The experts at Weber have been creating charcoal grills for over 60 years. Since their founder made that first kettle grill here in Chicago, they've operated under the philosophy that covered cooking yields the best results. But before you can cover a grill and smoke those steaks, burgers, sausages, and veggies, you'll need to get those briquettes glowing hot. Grab your trusty charcoal tool and light up those coals. The 21-inch stainless steel rake keeps you at a safe distance from the fuel, and the angled head allows you to have absolute control. Add more coals and allow extra oxygen into your cooker for more heat, or decrease airflow to bring temperatures back down. Some recipes require you to move the briquettes around the base of your barbecue, with two piles at either side of the grates for indirect heating. Keep your rake close at hand to have your temperatures (and your recipes) mastered.

Cleaning and Storage

The job isn't finished once the fire is out. Use the rake to help get rid of leftover ash by sweeping active coals to the side, and moving ash closer to the grill's bottom. Newer Weber grills use the one-touch ash disposer that keeps barbecues clean with just a touch, though other devices will need more elbow grease. When you're finished, store the charcoal tool someplace safe, like within a grill cabinet or in the garage. The loop attached to the base of the rake allows it to be stored from a peg on the side of a grill or pegboard. Check out other Weber accessories like utensils, grill brushes, and cookbooks.
