I bought this to cool a small bedroom -- and it works great. It's now the coolest room in my apartment. I am female and had no trouble lifting and installing it without help. The major con is that it is loud. If you need quiet to sleep, I would suggest looking elsewhere. But, for functionality and easy of installation, it's a great little unit.

I had a similar GE model before and liked it. I do not use the remote, but do like the digital display and automatic cooling features. I have aluminum window frame and had to improvise my own device to install this machine. Am wondering why airconditioners tend to have accordian fillers that want to go in rather than spring out (a feature which would have made this machine easier to install).

We tryed a few small air conditioners before before deciding to order this one online from ABT. We have a very small window opening and can only fit a 17 inch wide or less unit in the perfered window. We tryed a Frigidare 5200 btu and a Haier 5000 btu. Both of these units were loud and just didn't cool the room at all. We then went searching online and found this 6000 btu G.E. and boy am I impressed. It's pretty quite and cools the whole 750 square ft. main floor of our house nicely. It has all the bells and whistles a digital air conditioner has and I hope to get many years of use from it. If your looking for a small air conditioner that can kick out the cold air, this little G.E. is it!

I have a 150 sq ft bedroom where I usually have just a window fan going, always afraid of the cost and noise of an AC unit for the room. As I have 4 A/V units with a large TV in the room, and a computer, the heat from the electronics really makes the room hot and unbearable in the summer and started to get to me so I finally broke down.

I couldn't be happier with it. It was easy to install (female, installed it myself), not very heavy, the noise is no more than what the fan was that I replaced. There's barely a noticeable difference in the sound level when the compressor kicks on or off either.

Since I like fresh air usually, fan only settings was a must for me, and coupled with the temperature control when the AC is running, it's been ideal for this room. I thought the remote was a bit of silly fluff but I find I use it all the time, usually when it's cool enough to turn up the temp setting or switch to the fan only, which otherwise would wait until I got up.

I couldn't be happier with the unit and would recommend it to anyone.

I exchanged this unit for a larger 8,000 BTU and not only did it cool better but it is quiet. The 6,000 BTU a/c sounded like a jet airplane.

I tried two air conditioners prior to this one, similar to use and mounting. One had an compressor that sounded like a circular saw and the other had a fan so loud you were unable to sleep. The GE performance topped the other two in both aspects.
The cost of the GE was also slightly less than the other two.

My living room is a good size but I really only need cooling near my deak and it is perfect in my odd-sized windows. No additional fillers in the window was needed so it looks much more neater than my last AC. Great price from ABT out of 4 other sites I checked. i initially ordered the 5200 btu ge model but had to replace it with this 6000btu model which i'm glad i did coz the former was loud and had an inaccurate thermostat imo. this model definitely worked as advertised and i would buy it again if i need one for another room.

I don't know what level of sound is acceptable for an A/C, so I don't know if I could call this one loud, but it is certainly not quiet.

If you're looking for a cheap A/C, this is a good one that gets the room chilled. Plus I personally don't mind the noise, because I wouldn't wake up from a thunderstorm.

I like GE products. GE air conditioners are known to be unusually quiet and long-lasting.
This 6000BTU unit works great, and it's all that I was hoping for. Note that windows wider than
36 inches probably will require a custom install.
The day the unit was installed we began 3 or 4
days of 100 degree heat. This AC kept my small
den very cool and comfortable.
