Televisions: Entertainment for All

Ah, the television. Once considered a luxury that only the most affluent could afford to have in their home, the TV has come a long way since the early days of film and projection nearly a century ago. Since then, our expectations have shifted a bit when it comes to moving pictures, whether we're streaming a series for the entire family or snuggling up with popcorn for date night. Instead of tiny tube TVs, we expect massive pictures, from the now "small" 32-inch television to 85-inch TV behemoths. Abt carries devices that run the gamut for size, definition, and screen technology—and while top brands have been dropping in price, their engineers manage to equip each new model with outrageous features.

Expand and Enhance

High-definition televisions are sporting newer screens these days, with complex technology hidden behind their flat panels. If you haven't shopped for a screen in a while, some of the new innovations may blow you away. High-definition televisions have superseded standard def, becoming the new baseline. These HD TVs feature a resolution of 720 or 1080 pixels and standard color—and Abt's current selection only includes televisions that are HDTV resolution or sharper.

Meanwhile, top brands have been pushing further than HD ever since its development. Meet the 4K TV (sometimes called the Ultra HD Television, or UHD). It's named for the width: 4,000 pixels within each model's frame, though the actual resolution is much higher at 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. That's four times sharper than regular HD frames—a change your household is bound to appreciate. While 4K TV is quickly becoming the most popular TV, its technology has already been overshadowed by the next competitor: 8K TV. No matter which model or definition you pick, know that it'll be able to support all your favorite devices like video game consoles, streaming devices, Blu-Ray and DVD players and more.

Intelligent Processors and Smart TVs

These newer 4K TVs don't just look better, they actually think better. Though most people pick out a Smart TV because they can connect to streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+, these televisions have only grown smarter and smarter. Instead of just broadcasting information, many of these machines can analyze and upscale the content that you watch, showing old favorites in crisper definition than you've ever seen before. Meanwhile, other smart televisions are voice activated and can integrate with virtual assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Home. Screen your TV Screen: OLED, QLED, and LED

Just like the sharpening definition of 4K and 8K TVs, the technology of color has been changing dramatically in the last decade. LED and LCD TVs are standard for flat panel devices, and create color and light the same way: by pushing light through pixels filled with red, blue, and green color filters. Meanwhile, QLED and OLED are newer technologies that take a more refined approach to pixels and light. QLED televisions still use LCD technology—these Samsung-only devices use quantum dot technology instead of traditional pixels, though. A layer of these microscopic "dots" coats the entire screen, and they're designed to showcase bright light and over one billion colors. QLED TVs come in smart and 4K variants, making these televisions a flexible choice for any budget.

Among other television manufacturers, LG stands out with their OLED models. Instead of projecting light through a layer of liquid crystal like in LCD, QLED, and LED screens, OLED TVs break things down to the individual pixel. Instead of illuminating the entire screen, each pixel is controlled independently for color contrast that can't be found anywhere else. And without a necessary layer of light, users can get the darkest black hues available on the market.
