I have enjoyed this microwave for 4+ years. However, the microwave oven died on me today, not even 5 years after purchase date. This is extremely disappointed given that it is a GE Profile appliance and I used to associated quality with GE. My husband was not happy that we paid so much for the microwave (at least twice the cost as other microwaves) only to have it die not even 5 years later. While it is working though, the features are nice. I am a fan of the inverter defrost. However, paying almost $300 for a microwave that doesn't last 5 years is terrible.

Died after only 2 months of home use....I was surprised to see this as a Consumer Reports top choice, after I bought it I read the reviews at [...] and it seems ALOT of people have the same problems with it...It just doesn't last more than a few months! My daughters family of 6 has been using one of these for about 2 years and it has performed flawlessly. I have only used mine for a few days and it works great as well. The only quibble I can think of is the size and location of the start button. It takes a little getting used to.
My contractor installed a "Trim Kit" around it that makes it look like a built-in oven.

I use this product daily!... as a full meal cooker, an "auxiliary cooker,and as a snack cooker. The instruction book is very useful on the parts that I use less frequently.
Even my husband can use it!
It even gives me a nice parting message on the screen to ENJOY MY MEAL!
I had the identical oven previously, until this year's massive week long ice storm hit us. Several of my appliances were burned out by the huge power surges. Entirely Nature's fault. I replaced this one immediately, with the same microwave , from the same dealer.

This oven is generally working well. It does a great job of reheating with the auto sensor functions. The defrosting function also works well. On the negative, the functions have some weird idiosyncracies. If you have the reminder beep function enabled (which I'm glad to finally have in a microwave) - if you use the timer, once the timer runs out, it continues to reminder beep after the timer has expired. The only way to clear the reminder is to open the oven door. This is ridiculous!! We often like to use the timer for miscellaneous household uses. To have to to return to the kitchen to open the oven door and cancel the reminder beep (every 15 seconds no less) is a stupid oversight someone should have caught in programming.

The first oven we received, by the way, had a defective blower and had to be returned. It took us several weeks to get a properly operating unit. So far it works reasonably well, but it seems they still have some bugs to work out. From a "boots on the ground" perspective, it works well, but a good quality GE product should not have goofy problems we have experienced.

My 2004 GE profile microwave got used by a 2 year old who put a spoon in it and blew it up. I had to find another ge profile series microwave that fit into the same space and accomplished the same tasks. We have a trim kit for our 2004 microwave and didn't want to buy another one for this microwave. It fits but we had to modify to make it fit the same way it did last time.(basically what I'm saying is be careful if you have a previous ge profile mic and trim kit) This microwave is quieter and seems to heat the food in a similar fashion. Very easy to learn how to use and program.

This microwave weighs about 10 pounds less than my 2 year old sunbeam that is only 1.2 cubic feet. It heats food about 30% faster than any older microwave oven I've used at home or at friends or at work. It has a nice stainless cabinet and the interior ir relativlely flat for easy cleanup.

This product is very useful for tasks such as warming, defrosting and cooking all types of foods. It has a unique sensor that knows when the product is ready. The built in templates lets you choose between certain foods so it knows how long to cook. The sensor also measures the moisture content so that it knows how long to reheat foods. I love the defrost on this microwave. It defrosts the food item evenly without overcooking it.

The only negative is the display, just what others have said, that from above, part of the display is cut off (and I'm only 5-1). But we got used to that in about a day. Very even defrosting. After reading reviews from tests done by Consumer Reports, I settled on this model. It is large in exterior size, but was a perfect replacement from my old one that suddenly stopped working after 5 years from a faulty heating element (magnatron?). I am very pleased with the power and heating evenness. The finish is nice and easy to wipe clean. There's plenty of room for everything from a pizza to a turkey. Sensing features and ease of use are a bonus. My aging mother could figure out how to use it without directions or instructions.

We could not find a display in any stores locally so we took a chance and bought online. The door insert cover is not white as in the pictures but a grey (titanium) color similiar to the stainless finish. It looks much nicer than the pictures. It cooks evenly which is a change from our old G.E. Size is nice for a family of four. Would definitely recommend.

I just received this microwave oven (JES2251SS)and am in the process of learning how to use it. First, some comments on the finish. The front face is the only surface that has stainless steel as PART of the finish. The top and sides are what looks to be a dull finish blued steel. I would have preferred stainless all around. One big PROBLEM I noticed: the display. If you look at the digital display from head-on, all is well...the numerals are clear with a black background. But if you are looking at it from an overhead angle, such as when you are standing in front of it, the numerals get washed out from a kind of background glow that gets worse the higher up you go. Also, you can't see the top of the numerals...is it a 7 or a 1? Now, I am 6'5", so when I am standing in front the the unit trying to enter a cook time, I have to bend to see the numerals because they are almost completely washed out. I have it sitting on a standard 36" kitchen counter, and it seems that anyone taller than about 5'7" is going to start experiencing this. For this reason, I may return this item. I have not actually used it to cook, so I can't comment on its performance.

My first "American" microwave oven. It is light, compared to my smaller old one (Sharp) which weighed a ton.[...]I have had it for over a month, and everything works nicely. The fan blows the air out through the side vent so the inside does not steam up. Not too noisy, but not too quiet either. The inverter technology speeds this cooking/heating up nicely. If this one lasts as long as my previous one (18 years), I will be very happy. So far, I am very pleased with this GE microwave oven.

I've never liked or owned any GE products. My parents always bought GE products .. appliances, irons, tv's, radios washers, ac's etc to which lasted a few months or years , trash them then go by some more. They were inexpensive. I remember almost everything in our house was made by GE. I remember when GE had problems with appliances that were made out of the USA that were burning up and catching homes on fire. Fits an entire 9x15" pan with room to spare

Reheat sensor works great. Had my family over for xmas and people were constantly using the auto reheat button with different types and amounts of food, seemed to heat perfectly and evenly every time.

Only have 2 complaints so far:

1) The display only shows a few characters at a time, so it's hard to use the various food menus only seeing 1 (or part of 1) word at a time.

2) Only comes in stainless steel. I would have preferred a black finish. It doesn't show fingerprints TOO badly, but still, I'm just not a stainless fan.

I use this product for cooking, reheating, defrosting, etc. I have been using a microwave since 1972. What I like about this microwave is it is like another brand but much better made. It doesn't make noise when the carousel platter is turning (my other one sounded like it was crashing around or off of the ring) and I like that the microwave floor has two large bumps in the front to prevent the dish from moving outward by accident. I also like the quality of the construction - it is easy to clean and very well made. The sensor reheat and sensor cook feature works very well and the food cooks evenly. I like that you don't have to punch the control panel to get it to register like some - you just press the buttons nicely. What I don't like is that the control panel is confusing - not the display (it is just like the other brand I had) - just the buttons. I had to put an arrow on it to point to the Start button -- they are all grouped together with no color to differentiate it. It does have a double line around it but the buttons are all the same size and color (black on brushed or satin stainless steel). I saw this same brand in a smaller less expensive model and the buttons were grouped in a much better arrangement and color. Also, when I use the defrost function, you have to put in the weight (just like the previous brand I used) but it over cooks it. The edges and ends of like a rib steak get warmed up. the sausage chub starts cooking. I never had that before. I now have to put a lower weight than the package lists so it won't cook the product when I just want to defrost it. I would recommend this product because it is a well made item and much better than any other I had before - no matter the cost. You just have to learn the control panel and input a lower weight when defrosting.

I was disappointed that this microwave does not have the feature of hitting 1 to 5 for quick heating. Also, no 30 sec. button. Melting and softening which are features touted in Consumer Reports must be programmed requiring a manual, rather than using a quick key. The microwave looks very good and, so far, performs well.

Everything works very well on this machine. Heats evenly, the sensor functions work very well.

However, you cannot use the microwave's timer function for something on the stove then use the microwave to warm up a food item. GEs quality control really dropped the ball here.

Microwave came quickly, well packaged & therefore undamaged. Looks just like the picture. Note: the blue top mentioned in one of the reviews is a plastic covering to protect the stainless steel surface and it peels off very easily! So far have only used it for leftovers & defrosting but it seems to be working perfectly.

The only thing I really don't like about it is that you can't use the Sensor buttons twice in a row. The time increases everytime and your food will catch on fire. Not a big deal but the sensor is what I really love about this microwave. You can use the sensor button then use the microwave by entering the time, then use the sensor button again, but do not use the sensor buttons consecutively. Maybe put a sticker of warning on the microwave when packing to ship. Otherwise everybody LOVES our microwave.

This microwave is more powerful, quieter, and "smarter" than our last two microwaves. It is large, so it has room for big or tall items.

However, I find I don't use all the "smart" options. When I know how long something needs to cook (e.g. old fashioned oatmeal) I'd rather type in the time rather than use its pre-determined times.

We bought this to replace a 5 year old 1100 watt, 1.0 cu/ft GE model. This one has the same exterior footprint but MORE interior room. And the much larger turntable allows me to put more on it. It holds everything I could want to put in it. The 1200 watts of power (with "inverter technology", whatever that is) has cut my heating time down by at least one-third. And it looks great on the counter. Smooth, stainless steel design, but not easily smudged. And not expensive. Overall, no downsides. Highly recommended.

This microwave has met all of my desires. The key to enjoying it is to follow directions on sensor cooking (including reheating). The trick is in covering your dish correctly. This feature is one of the reasons I picked this model and I am very happy with it. I hate having to guess how long to heat things and this microwave takes the guess work out of it. When I ordered it I was upset that I could not get a black one but the stainless steel looks good.

This is the best microwave I have ever used. My previous microwave lasted more than 15 years but I have used many microwaves in my 35 plus years of cooking. Imagine being able to heat a plate of leftovers without stirring the food and finding that it had heated all the way through? Inverter technology works for me! Best defrost system--thaws without cooking the food. Only thing I haven't figured out is the humidity sensor. When I've relied on that feature foods tend to overheat so I'm just reducing the power for most leftovers as I usually do and timing them. I really like this machine!

I got this make/model because of high reviews by others on the web and in general. Much to my suprise when I unpacked the microwave, it was way bigger than I had thought. Yeah, I know the dimensions were in the product spec, but this thing is just BIG. After consultation with the better half, we returned it [...], and got a smaller model. So build a mock up if you have to, but really check out how this will look in the space you have.

This is a great product. Pretty easy to use, lots of functionality. Only complaint is that it doesn't come in other colors. Stainless is difficult to keep clean.

We had to wait for backordered status about two weeks, but [...] estimated delivery was accurate. Good communications from merchant. This unit is very good looking and performs as well as CR said, especially on defrost. Replaced a 1000W Sharp Convection microwave (now have a convection oven) and we are pleased. Suggest using the "lower" cookingtime guidlines on full power, since this 1200W oven is quite powerful.

Unlike any other microwave I have used in the past, this microwave can truly melt chocolate. The inverter technology lives up to its promise--to cook at a true medium temperature, rather than blasting high temps at first and finishing at low. I have no fears that things set at medium will burn, and can walk away from what I'm melting, as if it's on a low setting on the stove top.

For all other operations, it seems to run like any other microwave; maybe a bit more powerful.

I will admit that I cannot figure out how on earth to cook with the sensor cooking setting, but I gave it 5 stars anyway, because that is no real loss to me. The couple of times I have tried sensor cooking, it has just cooked on high until I stop the unit manually.

Otherwise, put away the double boiler, this baby does the trick!

Great microwave, cooks fast and even, cleans up easily. This is a large microwave, so you do need counter space for it. The only negative is finger print smudges on stainless finish

I ordered this particular microwave oven largely because it received the top recommendation from Consumer Reports. After a week of use, it has lived up to all expectations. It seems to cook and reheat food both in less time than my last microwave and with greater control. The sensor works very well for reheating items. The stainless steel case looks very good and feels sturdy.

I Was Shocked When It Arrived!

I had never seen this oven in person prior to placing my order, only the photos online.

This oven was purchased to replace an aging Panasonic NN-T990SA bought in the year 2000. It wasn't being replaced because it no longer works, it has just seen its share of wear & tear over the years. Several times in the past I bought & returned other ovens and kept going back to my old but reliable Panasonic, and even brought it with me when I relocated from another state.

When the GE Profile JES2251 arrived and I opened it, other than the name brand, modernized design, and the placement of a couple of control pads, I found it was IDENTICAL in every way to the 7-year old unit it was replacing! Same size turntable and rack, measurements identical, and even the frame parts are interchangable. It was also immediately noticable by my mate and you know how rare it is that men pay much attention to appliances! This was great-no learning curve needed for either of us.

I was able to go to a website and order a part for my old oven using the new oven's parts list.

Unless there's a manufacturing defect, I expect this oven will last for years to come, like its predecessor.

Good Microwave oven that buttons and functions are well laid out and intuitive. Not cluttered with unnecessary functions or little used functions. Powerful. I find the automatic cook sensor can overcook a potato and fresh vegetables. Hopefully, this Microwave will last a long time. My wife bought a microwave that cost more then twice this one with a convection oven (Panasonic) lasted five years. I like appliances that do the job and you forget how well they do it and how long they last.

I was looking forward to using the "sensor" technology, but it seems to want to cremate smaller portions (which is what a tend to need to heat) before it turns off. Maybe it would work better for larger amounts of food.? I love being able to put a large bacon rack in and it have enough room to spin. Overall, it's a good oven.

Highly rated, generally met expectations. One missing feature is a disappointment -- on our former GE microwave we could cook for any number of minutes from 1 to 6 just by pressing the corresponding number key, and there was a key to add half a minute.

After researching, this unit came up as best large capacity microwave on Cosumer Reports. The unit was purchased to replace a 28 year old unit. The older unit was 3 times heavier than this unit, which was a concern at first. But the unit performs extremely well and I am very happy with the purchase. I do recommend keeping the manual handy as it offers some good cooking tips.

This was a good investment. At an excellent price [$], we got a highly-reviewed (ConsRep) and truly high-quality microwave. It's large and powerful, has dozens of applications (described in detail in the manual), and is relatively quiet (for the power). We had to get used to the power, because our previous one was quite weak -- so go easy on the minutes! The machine is also good looking (it's big, yes, but it doesn't feel massive). The stainless steel surfaces stain easily (fingerprints), but cleaning is easy too -- just a little water (light surface clearner for tougher stains) and a clean, soft cloth to polish. I hope this great impression holds for longer than the first month.

The only draw back to this microwave is that it takes up alot of counter space. If you have a microwave shelf already built in..be sure to measure! This microwave takes up more space than the old ones from the 80's! Otherwise it has more than lived up to our expectations. You will easily be able to use extra large dishes and platters in this model.

major upgrade from my old Sharp microwave. Very quiet and much easier to operate. A sensor can reheat your leftovers when you press reheat. The microwave will cook your leftover and stop when it is ready. Very nice feature!

There is not a lot to differentiate between microwaves of similar size, but I do find this one to be a bit nicer and higher quality than the Panasonic that it replaced. The door seems to open and close more quietly and smoothly, and control panel is a bit simpler and more versatile. Also, the inverter is used not just for defrosting, but also when lower power levels are selected. This results in more even heating and less splattering. Perhaps it is also a bit quieter when running and it defiantly produces less RF interference with radio.

Well designed with clean look and generous cavity. Cooks about 30% faster than our old microwave of the same power. My only criticism (minor) is that the opening latch sounds tinny.
