This oven (2.2 cubic feet) exceeds my expectations. Reviewed several models. My husband has poor eyesight and had difficulty reading the panel of other micros. NOT anymore. I am a retired home economist who has used a lot of micros.
Pro's-EASY to read. Menu selection is easy to understand. Quiet as can be. I like the option of "quick minute" cooking and invertor defrost. This is new and not offered in retail stores near home.

I replaced a smaller Amana microwave with touchpad controls. This Panasonic is much more intuitive, quicker and easier to operate, both from the standpoint of entering the power level if necessary and cooking time. The buttons and dial allow quick efficient programming on the Panasonic compared to having to firmly enter each number for time, power level and other functions on the Amana's touchpad. I also like the larger capacity because I can put in larger foods and rectangular dishes without a problem. The stainless steel resists smudging as described. I have no complaint after almost a month of use.

This is the 4th Panasonic microwave oven I've purchased. I've gotten about 7 years of very heavy use out of each previous one (two years longer than the 5-year warranty). I find the controls to be very intuitive and rarely need to refer to the owner's manual, and the power and eveness in cooking is the best on the market, so says Consumer Reports and I agree. But the best thing about the model NN-SD997S is its beauty - stainless steel all-around, not just the front, and the fingerprint-proof front really does minimize the need of a frequent wipe-downs.

It was an excellent purchase. We replaced a smaller microwave received from my son years ago ... the keyboard had stopped working, and the internal light had burned out long ago. The old one had a keyboard that did NOT have buttons, per say, but a diaphragm arrangement covering the actual recessed buttons (just like many microwave ovens have today, including the less expensive Panasonic ones). Since it was a small unit, we decided it wasn't worth fixing.

This Panasonic machine had real buttons, clear lighting (both the display and the interior), looks very nice on the counter, and works perfectly. And, it does almost everything (we would have bought one with Convection Heating, but we didn't have enough clearance above the machine ... 3" minimum required).

The only problem was a small one (and NOT Abt's fault, Abt is terrific). It resulted from a design error. The stainless steel hinge corner of the machine was too close to the black plastic corner on the door. When the door was opened (before we even got it), a small chip of plastic broke off (less than a quarter of an inch worth), and most people wouldn't even notice.

Even with that small problem, it is STILL an excellent machine, and a great purchase.

The most positive aspect of this microwave oven is that when I received it my electrician, who was working at my house, took one look and said, "I just bought this two weeks ago!" If you have a good electrician you know how important his input can be. He set it up for me, too. I am very pleased.

Lots of space, great, even power, love the look, love those little blue lights, love the instructional aspect of the lights that direct the user toward the next step in the cooking process and the admonition to "Enjoy your meal." Uh, oh, now my microwave is talking to me!

We use it for cooking produce and the sensor cooking is fantastic.`Put produce in push button then more or less and start. That was the main reason I purchased the Panasonic again. I also pop corn in a bowl and I cannot do as much as with my previous Panasonic because it will burn if I do. This is the main negative so far. Sensor defrost is good and reheat, soups etc work very well too.

First ABT purchase. [...]The microwave itself had a small scratch and dent on top (stainless steel) but no big deal since I plan to enclose it. Not ABT's fault, just manufacturing/pkging error. I really like the dial (no numbers to push), cool blue lights match my Breville coffee maker, seems to heat stuff quickly, tones are unobtrusive, like the timer, not too sure about the sensor because I haven't used it enough. Don't ask me what the inverter is for. I also like the feel of the door closure. Hated my last one, sounded junky.

I reheat, thaw, melt and cook a lot. Excellent reliability. I especially love the wide variety of temperature possibilities because of the dial setting. I just approximate the weight on each individual item and I get a perfect result every time. I trust the built in settings - brown rice cooks perfectly - my old rice cooker is now retired.

I bought this oven to be part of a complete kitchen renovation. I was after something large, easy-to-use, and capable of being built into a cabinet. All of these qualities are present in this unit. I did buy the Panasonic kit to enhance the installation, and have posted a photo of the installed unit with the kit.

I was surprised at the power of the unit, and learned very quickly that Sensor reheating takes all the guesswork out of re-heating leftovers. In the same vein, the defrost cycle is very efficient...defrosting frozen meat quickly without cooking it.

All-in-all, this Panasonic microwave has been a great experience.

This microwave has it all. It has a very sleek, attractive design that will complement virtually any kitchen. The controls are well thought-out and intuitive. It has several built-in functions, including "Genius" sensor cook and sensor re-heat, inverter defrost and "keep-warm", that automate the most common tasks. And it has enough power to reheat that cold cup of coffee in just seconds.
