The product worked very well initially, but for no apparent reason, the control module became unresponsive. Luckily I was able to return it for a refund. I would be reluctant to recommend it.

Comments about GE GE 50 Pint Light Cool Gray Dehumidifier:

It pulls out moisture, even in a chilly room. I like the user interface. It's not a quiet unit, but the noise is only from the fan: no banging or rattling. I have doubts about the accuracy of the humidity display, and a short time after the unit turns off (due to reaching setpoint) it turns back on. I don't believe the room humidity increased by 5 or 10% in two minutes. Still, it does take the moisture out.

I bought this product because of the good reviews it was given. As soon as I removed it from the box it came in I noticed the control panel label was peeling off. I didn't think that was a big deal so I just pressed it back on. However, when I went to plug it in and start it nothing happened!, No indicator lights, no compressor, no fan. Abt was very good about taking it back and also gave me a discount on a different model!. The model I exchanged it for was the Lg 65 pint. I've had it for four days now and I am very pleased with it.

Comments about GE GE 50 Pint Light Cool Gray Dehumidifier:

Discovered that we had a very damp apartment (~800 sq ft) and hoped this would be the solution. It was a larger unit than anticipated, but that's nothing against the product (just my expectation). The unit is a bit noisy, but in a "white-noise"/fan sort of way (no squeaks or rattles or other annoying sounds), but the noise isn't too bad considering the job that it does. Pulls plenty of moisture out of the air (we always use the unit on the High fan setting). I have no complaints about the built-in bucket for water, which is easy to remove and replace. We don't use the unit every day (and haven't at all since the on-set of winter and dryer air). Very satisfied with the unit so far.

Service & Delivery comments:

Prompt and excellent delivery, everything in great shape.

Comments about GE GE 50 Pint Light Cool Gray Dehumidifier:

The first unit had to be sent back because the unit would not shut-off when collection tank was removed. Also, it was cycling off/on too frequently. Second unit received worked much better, but 5% humidity set intervals are too great, when humidity level falls in-between. It creates too frequent cycling. Other than these minor CONS, it is a well designed dehumidifier. I would recommend it.

Comments about GE GE 50 Pint Light Cool Gray Dehumidifier:

I purchased this GE dehumidifer due to its features. Unfortunately, it would never turn off for more than 20 seconds, no matter what % humidity setting was used. Furthermore, when I pull out the drain bucket during operation, the unit kept running. This could be the reason for the defective sensors. I have ordered a replacement in hope that the new one will work.

Comments about GE GE 50 Pint Light Cool Gray Dehumidifier:

It dehumidifies well, is easy use, is easy to empty, and is easy to move around. I got this for a large (1000sqft), finished, and just slightly damp basement, and it is serving that purpose well.

At first, I emptied the bucket twice a day. After about a week of that, I only need to do it once a week or so. It's cold and the heat is on, so that probably helps too. (Also - I have it set at 50% humidity, and the basement wasn't very damp in the first place.)

The biggest issue with this is the fan noise. When it's running, it's pretty loud. It's a little quieter on the 'low' fan speed versus the 'high', but not as much as I was expecting. 'Low' is still too loud.

The other annoying issue is the tendency for the unit to start and stop. It will detect the humidity is getting too high and start up, then shut back off after about 10 minutes. A few minutes later, it will do it again. I'd much prefer it just run for longer to get the level lower than necessary, then shut off for longer.

Because of the noise issue, sometimes I'll turn it off when I'm in the room. (Easy to do - just push the power button. Push it again to turn it back on with the last settings. Simple.)

The manual says to keep it 16-18+ inches away from a wall, if that matters to you. It's on wheels, so it's pretty easy to move around.

The bucket is very easy to empty. It even has a handle to carry it with. It seems well designed, and I have zero problems with the way it works.

The unit is easy to operate. The controls are simple and easy to understand. No problems there.

The manual says to clean the air filter every 250 hours that the fan runs. Keep that in mind if you're going to run it continuously - that's every 10 days. You need to keep the filter clean to keep the coils clean. There's an indicator light to remind you.

All in all, I'm pretty pleased. If it were quieter and didn't start and stop, I think it'd be perfect. I researched other dehumidifiers, and they all have similar noise issues. Given that, the GE brand (who knows - it may still mean something), and the ease of use of this unit, I have no regrets.
