Good basic unit. Nice looking, made a huge difference to a 45 year old kitchen with an old coppertone hood, bringing it into the 21st century for a very reasonable price.

Easy to install and wire, just screws to the bottom of an upper cabinet - you may need to add blocking for your cabinets if they have a recess in the bottom (as do most face frame cabinets), but this is just two short lengths of scrap wood approximately as thick as depth of the recess. For my cabinets I screwed the blocks to the 3/4" thick cabinet side frames, but depending on your cabinets, you may need to attach the blocking with screws installed from the inside of the cabinet down thru the bottom. Then you just screw the hood to the blocks. For flat bottom cabinets such as European style with no face frame, you probably wont need the blocking at all.

Fan is 2 speed and fairly loud, but no worse in my opinion than any other hood fan I have used.

Stainless steel matches other stainless appliances and is easy to clean with ordinary stainless steel cleaner products.

This unit has a single standard base lamp socket - we installed a single 14W CFL which provides plenty of good task lighting (equal to about a 75W incandescent). My only complaint is the bulb/diffuser is mounted low in the hood and is a bit glaring when you are seated - for instance at the kitchen table where your eye level is lower than the lip of the hood. We got around this by adding a couple of low profile 9W CFL "undercabinet" puck lights purchased at the home center and stuck them (with double sided tape) deeper up into the hood recess so they are not in direct view even when sitting at the table. I wired these up so they operate independently of the light switch on the hood itself (each puck has it's own switch), but you could also easily wire them to the hood switch if desired.

The instructions indicate the filter on my non-direct vent model is not washable and must be replace a couple of times a year - however nowhere have I seen a source to buy replacements - but to be honest I haven't really looked, so you may want to check into this if it is important to you. My guess is the filters have activated charcoal or something similar to trap odors, etc. and may be why they are not washable.

This range hood was installed in a high-end rental with a very small kitchen. With all small-sized stainless appliances this hood works perfectly. It functions great and is a breeze to install.

As it is stainless, it is obvious when it needs to be cleaned, but over all a great product.
