I have only used it a few times since purchasing but it has worked very well for men's suits, ladies dresses, and casual clothing. The first unit I ordered did not work as it should. It shut off too early and did not use even half the distilled water in the cup. Abt replaced the unit with a new one [...]

I was spending close to 150 per week on a cleaning bill for my suits and slacks. Now I get to wear them at least 3 times out the week before having to dry clean them. I had my first unit for over 2 years and used it almost 10 times per week. It finally gave in because of the demand of use but was well worth it. Just purchased my second one.

This is my second Fabric Freshener. The first died after crystals from inside the softener cup you're supposed to use migrated into the machine. Besides turning everything rust colored, it gunked up the works so the electronics eventually failed. From what I've read online, following the instructions (using softener cups then cleaning with vinegar) will lead to a chemical reaction between the crystals and vinegar that kills the machine. So this time, I'm going to try using only a softener cup that has had the crystals removed (I did this myself) to see if it lasts longer. Besides that problem, I love this thing. It does a great job on cotton shirts, and it's really easy to use. Even though I may have to replace it every 2-3 years, it's worth it to me because I hate to iron and it's cheaper than taking everything to the cleaners. And the purchase price and experience with Abt was great!

Comments about Whirlpool Whirlpool Fabric Freshener - Vapor Blue Finish:

The Whirlpool Fabric Freshener is a GREAT invention that does its job well...when it works. I'll start with the Pros:

1. Does a perfect job of steaming clothes and removing odors AND wrinkles!

2. Is a GREAT alternative to dry cleaning and doing a load of laundry when all your clothes need is a quick refresh!

Unfortunately, Whirlpool is the only company to offer such a product. It seems I have run into the same issues time and time again. Cons of this item are:

1. Whirlpool only back it with a 3 month warranty. Once out of warranty, you are out of luck. Granted, Whirlpool will offer you a new unit at a discounted price but you'll still be paying $150 to $160 for it and stuck with a dead one.

2. For some reason, the pump mechanism on all of mine seem to go out. Once this happens, the water from the water cup can not be pumped and turned into steam (the main feature of the unit). No Steam = No Clean Clothes! I've gone through about 5 of these units within the past several years and am very dissatisfied with the quality of the pump unit.

It's a love/hate relationship with the Whirlpool Fabric Freshener. I honestly can't live without one yet at the same time am fed up with its ridiculous life cycle. I've looked all over the place and can not find another manufacturer of such a unit! I've already determined that it would be better worth my time and money to eventually invest in a steam washer/dryer in the future once my current Fabric Fresher dies....AGAIN.

This unit works fantastic. Leaves clothes fresh smelling and looking great. Only downside is that the unit doesn't last as long as I'd like - this is my third unit in about 4 years. Still, its a bargain! Reduces need for drycleaning, especially suit jackets. Will eventually take the crease out of suit pants, but they will only need a touch-up press to look great again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Comments about Whirlpool Whirlpool Fabric Freshener - Vapor Blue Finish:

This steamer/fresher should NOT be compared to a professional dry cleaner quality because you will be disappointed if you think that it will give you that crisp and perfectly pressed look that one has come to expect from a professional dry cleaner. HOWEVER, if you are okay with significantly reducing the amount of wrinkles from your clothing, then I would recommed this item. Even though this steamer does NOT come out perfectly crisp, I'll admit that it sure beats the alternative, which is doing each item manually. The convenience of the 1-touch operation far outweighs the time I used to spend using the steamer with the hose/wand, -or- for that matter, using an iron/ironing board. I highly recommend taking the shirts right out of the washing maching and placing them in the dryer for only a 5-7 minutes (then take them out of the dryer while they are still damp and put them on a hanger and place them directly into the steamer unit). The damp clothing comes out perfecly DRY and it seems to aid in reducing the wrinkles even more. So, the real question is this? Is this unit worth it? My answer is, Yes, because I have saved TONS of my valuable time with this hands free 1-touch operation. Can I live with the fact that they don't come out like they would have if I'd sent them to the dry cleaners? Once again, my answer is yes! Occasionally an item will need a little more "attention" so I don't mind using my other steamer (with the wand) to get it perfect. I justify this because it seems to only happen to a small handful of clothing articles so overall I'm pleased with its performance.

I have used the fabric freshener EVERY SINGLE DAY since I bought it. I haven't ironed a single piece of clothes for over a month, as it removes all the wrinkles for me. Each night I put my next day's clothes in the fabric freshener, and they are wrinkle-free the next morning.

I figured that I used to spend 10 min/day ironing x 365 days = 2 1/2 full days a year saved!!!

Amazing product!

My unit died after two months, but it is under warranty.

I work part time as a concert stage hand and I get a lot of one-of-a-kind silkscreen T-shirts. I find this product prevents the washer from chewing up the silkscreening.

Also, I can run a pair of pants through and wear them another day.

I would recommend this with the warning that it may or may not last a long time.

ABT was good to deal with. My situation is unusual because the post office does not deliver to my address, so they don't have a record of my address in their system, which ABT uses for address validation.

This is the ideal product for removing unpleasant smells from lightly worn clothing that does not need a washing. It's also the perfect product for those with partners/spouse/friends that smoke. It's not too swift for wrinkles however, you'll still need your iron. It's a wonder for clothes worn only to dinner, or the casino, or nightclub that aren't soiled and just need to be freshened up. It's also great for designer clothing that need a gentle cleaning. I'm very happy with mine.

I have used this product daily for four years and find it to do what it says it will. it is great for dress clothes removes wrinkles and odors. Our clothes last much longer as we send them to the dry cleaners much less. Our clothes maintain their color and cripness much longer. A really great product. Use only distilled water as the directions tell you. I used tap water on my first one and sure enough it clogged up the steaming device. If you follow the manufacturers instructions you will have no problems.

This unit performs well overall. I was pleasantly surprised to see that my clothes really did come out of the unit looking like they were dry cleaned. The few golf shirts I own that are silk don't get quite as crisp as the cotton shirts. I have to use two clamps per shirt and the unit only comes with two...so it makes for longer cycles. The clamps as mentioned in other reviews are not designed well. They warp and come apart when in use, causing your clothes to fall and wrinkle. Being an engineer I've already thought of how I'm going to modify the clamps to work better...but this would be an easy area of improvement for the designers.

Cons:
Noisy
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:

Comments about Whirlpool Whirlpool Fabric Freshener - Vapor Blue Finish:

I give this product a "fair" rating. It gets some wrinkles out, but nowhere near what dry cleaning does. It does help to use the clip-on weights, but it only comes with two, so you can only put them on either side of one shirt -- not the sleeves and not two shirts at once. BTW, I'm a guy using it for cotton dress shirts (button up, oxfords). I must admit I'm usually a slacker and don't write reviews for things, but I felt compelled to write on for this product because all the reviews on this site were so overwhelmingly positive. And thinking back to how they're phrased -- people saying they get the wrinkles out and freshen the clothes -- make me suspicious about the authenticity of those reviews. I would NOT say that it "freshens" clothes. I don't even know what that means. The thing just uses water, so it's not going to make your clothes smell any different. And it does NOT do a "great" job getting wrinkles out, at least not on 100% cotton oxford shirts. Maybe other people are writing reviews about other materials. Maybe if you ran the shirts through two cycles it would get more wrinkles out. Bottom line: It's cheap so I think it's worth the money. You'll be able to wear your shirts one or two more times before taking them to the dry cleaners, but don't expect all the wrinkles to come out.

Comments about Whirlpool Whirlpool Fabric Freshener - Vapor Blue Finish:

I've owned two of these now, and they've both worked extremely well. They cost pennies to operate (just some distilled H20 and a little electricity to create steam from the H20), and do a fantastic job of steaming my worn, wrinkled clothes. I now take clothes I've just washed and dried, and steam them instead of ironing them. It's amazing how close to ironed they come out. ONE BIG CONCERN: DO NOT follow instructions to use vinegar cup to clean. My first unit broke & the rep told me that the vinegar breaks down the water softener pellets in the water cup and clogs the system. She said NEVER to use vinegar. Said they were still using up the old instruction books that said to use vinegar (can you believe that?). So no vinegar cleanings, and you should be fine.

Thank goodness ABT had them! They are harder to find now - but I will be devasted if I can't find a replacement in the future. I love the fact that you fill it and walk away - you don't have to stand their wanding steam onto your clothes. The weights for pants work exactly like they should. Can't say enought. I have it permanently set up in its own corner of my laundry room. It works so well and so easily and quickly and clothes come out smelling new. I have a "sweater hanger" that i use in it that is kind of like a hanger that is a plastic 2" cage instead that really lofts the fabric and i think makes it even easier for the product to work.
I've had it three weeks and have already saved over $50 in dry cleaning.

I used to pay $200 to $300 a month to dry clean my dress shirts and pants. This has cut my monthly cleaning to about $60. As long as you don't stain it, you and freshen a shirt 4 or 5 times before cleaning it. Takes out wrinkles and smell. Such a great product!

Comments about Whirlpool Whirlpool Fabric Freshener - Vapor Blue Finish:

The product is great. A friend of mine read bad reviews on it after i had already purchased it but i decided to try it out myself.

No, the machine is NOT intended to give you a fresh from the Dry cleaners crisp ironing, so if that is what you are after, you will be sadly disappointed. It did however soften some wrinkles in a cotton sports coat i wore once and left hanging on the back of my office chair for a week.

It works great at eliminating odors. I am a smoker and wear cologne. After running my clothes through the cycle, they come out smelling of steam cleaning, a little kind of like new clothes from a store. It eliminates all kinds of smells, i even asked friends to smell pieces after they came out of it and the consensus is that it works well in this department.

It is great to freshen up sweaters and shirts that have been lightly used and you wont have to dry-clean them so often, saving you money and preserving the garment.

I wish they would put wheels on it for easy maneuverability and make it so that you can use regular tap water, i had the machine for over a week before i could try it because i didn't get a chance to get Distiled water.

This is my second Fabric Freshener. I used my first one so much that the fan motor quit. Since purchasing my first Fabric Freshener I have gone from going to the dry cleaners weekly to maybe two or three times a year. I have a lot of close that are suppose to be "wrinkle resistant" but as everyone knows if you leave them in the dryer they will need pressed. I know put them in my Fabric Freshener and 30 minutes later they are ready to wear.

Bottom Line:

Comments about Whirlpool Whirlpool Fabric Freshener - Vapor Blue Finish:

The device runs on distilled water only, no special solutions to purchase. I use this product for a variety of clothes. For example, clothes that I would like to wear immediately after purchase that have that "store smell" freshen up wonderfully. It has NEVER ruined any of my dry clean only clothes. With a little patience on precisely hanging an item before turning it on, it will eliminate wrinkles. I have also used it to freshen a down comforter! It is large enough for three items at a time and takes about 20 minutes to go through a cycle. Great product!

Service & Delivery comments:

I was also completely satisfied with service and delivery.

Comments about Whirlpool Whirlpool Fabric Freshener - Vapor Blue Finish:

I saw a home dry cleaning unit by Whirlpool at a "House of the Near Future" exhibit. I was hoping that this Fabric Freshener would be the beginning of that future. Well, it works fairly well. It doesn't completly get the odors or the wrinkles out but definitely freshens the clothes. One problem in common with other reviewers is the weighted clips. In order for the wrinkles to come out on suits, pants, and dress shirts you need the clips. It seems like I need about four to six of them, but you only get two in the box and I can't seem to purchase additional ones from Whirlpool. I "googled" for them with no result. (Even the unit of the future had these clips) So much for the future. It seems like Whirlpool is giving up on the idea which I think is a really cool concept. If they improved on it...

Comments about Whirlpool Whirlpool Fabric Freshener - Vapor Blue Finish:

This is one of the greatest things on the market to get your clothes ready for the next day. It refreshens clothes and relaxes wrinkles as said. I would definitely recommend this for those who find themselves ironing most of their time away. The drawback about this product is that if you have something thats been sitting under a basket full of stuff for a while, dont expect it to get rid of those wrinkles. In that case you'll have to go back to the iron board. Good Luck

By Brad the travel guyVerified Purchaser from Atlanta, GA on 1/26/2007
Pros:
Easy to Use
Best Uses:

Bottom Line:

Comments about Whirlpool Whirlpool Fabric Freshener - Vapor Blue Finish:

Easy to setup and use, especially for dry clean only items. It works pretty well on cotton, but nothing beats an old fashioned iron. I used it on a wool overshirt that was smoke ridden from going to the bar. I put it in the fabric freshener, 20 minutes later, no smell, just a fresh as getting it directly from the cleaners. If your items are not dirty or soiled, this will save you tons of money on dry cleaning bills. If I only used it for one round of cleaning from the dry cleaners, it has paid for itself.

I first tried this in my room at the Renaissance Chicago O'Hare Hotel. It was in the closet but advertised with a note from the hotel manager and a brochure describing its use. I was skeptical at first, but found that it freshened and removed the wrinkles from a couple of jackets and a shirt. It is extremely easy to use because you can start it and let it run without any attention. Clothes are like new in about an hour. The hotel model did not say to use distilled water, but the in-home version does.

Comments about Whirlpool Whirlpool Fabric Freshener - Vapor Blue Finish:

This is a great time and money saver. I no longer take items to the dry cleaners as much which saves me $$$ and piece of mind (Dry cleaners use numerous chemicals and pollute the environment) e.g. you can't thow something in the dryer and then use this machine. If you have something extremely wrinkled it will not work that well; but it will enable you to extend the number of uses between taking things to the dry cleaners.
