Denon quality you can count on.
Comments about Denon Denon 7.1 Channel Black AV Home Theater Receiver:
The instruction manual is not explained in layman's terms. Unless you are very familiar with sound systems it is not clear what is meant.
Simple versions/recommendations such as "use this setting when watching a DVD" are not provided.
Comments about Denon Denon 7.1 Channel Black AV Home Theater Receiver:
I set this up in my media room. Replaced Onkyo TX-SR608.
Comments about Denon Denon 7.1 Channel Black AV Home Theater Receiver:
I purchased this receiver for my downstairs movie, television and music listening. I'm running 5.1 with 2 speakers running my bose outdoor speakers in zone 2. This receiver is perfect if you do not need a lot of composite or component interfaces which means ideal for HDMI for the most part. Key features where HDMI 1.4, secondary zone (audio) output. Key competitors were Pioneer VSX-1020-K, TX-NR508. I have owned many Onkyos so I was a little leery of heat issues. I like the sound better than my Yamaha RX-a800 (In my theater room)
very rich even when pumped into Polk bookshelf speakers. I had for a couple months now and so far my price at ABT has not been beaten anywhere and I'm pleased with the value.

Comments about Denon Denon 7.1 Channel Black AV Home Theater Receiver:
Denon quality is unbeatable. This receiver was no exception to their reputation. Sound is clear, crisp, and powerful. My paradigms came to life and keep filling my space the more I push them. The microphone setup is simple and to the point. On screen displays are easy to use and do the job.. Who cares how they look?
Best receiver for the price. Denon packs all of their receivers with the same amps inside. Some more power, some less. This is the perfect combination of power and hook-ups.

Comments about Denon Denon 7.1 Channel Black AV Home Theater Receiver:
I was very excited when I got this receiver, but after a couple of weeks of really using it, I'm sad to say, I'm sending it back.
While the sound quality is exceptional (I'd expect nothing less of Denon), the controls and user interface is poorly designed and limited. Making simple adjustments is a vexing and tedious task.
Here are some examples:
1. After using the Audissey(tm) setup microphone, I noticed movies were sounding muffled and the rear surround speakers were too loud.
2. I could not figure out how to increase the treble and reduce the bass. I'm very technical, but the manual is all but impossible to understand.
3. iPod: I was excited to learn that I could use the receiver not just to connect my iPhone to and play music, but more importantly to control my iPod through the receiver remote. You see, with my old receiver, I connected my iPhone to it via some RCA cables on the Auxillary jack, but to change the song or fast forward, I had to walk over to the iphone and manually make the change.
When I set up the Denon with the iphone, I couldn't believe how poorly the denon's design was. Once connected to the Denon, one can only control the iphone through the denon. The iPhone screen is frozen. The only screen you get to see is the small digital led screen of the Denon. Scrolling through my hundreds of songs required repeated clicking of the remote. The feature made using the iPhone impossible.
What's more, I couldn't play songs with Pandora either because the Denon only allows audio from the iphone via the iPod application. When connected to the receiver, the iPhone displayed the message (no Audio available) when Pandora was playing music.
4. The on-screen menu looks like a mainframe computer from the 70's. I've seen better graphics on an atari. See photos. Moreover, the menu is impossible to understand. Try to adjust the bass? The main menu shows 'Audio Adjust'. But that's not where the bass adjust is. It's under 'Manual Setup'. Then you find 'Bass Adjust'. On the Bass adjust menu, See the photo I attached of the user manual's explanation of the manual setup process. If you can figure it out, let me know.
I soon realized today that if I didn't return this receiver, these small things would begin to annoy the heck out of me. So, it's going back.
With these devices, small features like the iPod control command a significant mark-up on price. Why should I pay for features that limit my enjoyment? I shouldn't. I won't.
