Nice to find just a plain stereo. I didn't want or need the home theater stuff.
Comments about Onkyo Onkyo Stereo Receiver - Black Finish:
It is getting more and more difficult to find receivers that have a pre-amp for my turntable. This product has one and it works great. It's even an upgrade to 50W from my old receiver that lasted more than 25 years. Thanks for carrying this product. As vinyl is making a comeback, I hope you sell more!
Comments about Onkyo Onkyo Stereo Receiver - Black Finish:
It's simple, solid, and reliable. I've only had it for 3 weeks, but it's perfect for my 300 sq. ft. apartment. Sounds good, good price.

Good value.
Comments about Onkyo Onkyo Stereo Receiver - Black Finish:
It was a great system with amazing sound, but the receiver was huge and maybe too powerful for our purposes. All we needed was a CD player, and the CD player didn't work so we had to return it, and thus we also returned this receiver. But I really enjoyed it when we were able to hear the sound that it produced. Very powerful as well!
Comments about Onkyo Onkyo Stereo Receiver - Black Finish:
I would have liked the unit a LOT more if there was a visible volume level on the enormous display surface. There is a dot on the volume wheel to give you an idea of how far advanced the volume is, but a digital display would have been a nice touch. Other than that minor complaint, a solid unit with clean sound that's easy to set up.
Comments about Onkyo Onkyo Stereo Receiver - Black Finish:
I needed to replace an elderly amplifier and tuner with something straightforward that could handle two sets of speakers. My speakers didn't warrant anything high-end but I definitely wanted a receiver that had an input for my turntable as well as all the other components. The Onkyo TX8222 had what I was looking for at an attractive price but the clincher was a comment in one of the other reviews: great FM reception with the supplied antenna. He was spot on! My favorite NPR station used to drop out occasionally and was fussy about antenna positioning. It's crystal clear now and I'm getting a bunch of other stations I didn't know were there. Great reception alone makes the Onkyo a winner for me. I don't have an Ipod so the docking thing didn't mean much but I've learned that my wife will be getting a nano for Christmas. We'll have to see how that works out. I'm definitely considering upgrading the CD and tape decks to Onkyo components.
Shipped immediately, easily tracked, arrived as promised. Both Abt and Onkyo's packaging was fine.

Perfect for what we needed.
Was looking for just a basic amp to power 2 sets of speakers and run with our cd player and turntable.
Plenty of power and using FM antenna supplied and can get stations we couldn't before.
Very happy with quality and price.

I specifically called Bose to get a recommendation for a replacement stereo receiver that would work effectively with the Bose 901 speakers which have to be run with the Bose 901 equalizer. This very reasonable Onkyo unit was recommended, and I am thoroughly pleased. [...]

My first TX8222 purchased a few months ago direct from Onkyo, replaced a many years old TX800 that was moved to my garage/workshop. The TX8222 is now in my living room where I can enjoy the convenience of its remote control and excellent quality of sound. I just purchased my second TX8222 [...] for a computer system dedicated to recording LPs, cassette tapes, VHS tapes, etc to CDs or DVDs. Turntable, tape deck, etc, all connect to the TX8222 and the line output goes to a small analog to USB converter that bypasses the sound board on my computer. The computer also has two scanners for converting pictures, slides, and 35mm negatives to digital format.

I couldn't be happier with this unit. It sounds fantastic with my bookshelf-sized Advent speakers, and gets excellent reception on local radio stations. There are tons of inputs available.
I would recommend this receiver to anyone who isn't looking for Surround Sound.

This system did just what I wanted- the basics, but is a step up from the Technics unit it replaced. It has power sources for two units, which made hook-up easier. Despite our rural location I get good FM reception, but the unit needs a better AM antenna given our location. Overall, a very nice unit for the money. [...].
Comments about Onkyo Onkyo Stereo Receiver - Black Finish:
At this price point, there is nothing like the TX8222. It has all of the traditional Onkyo virtues, i.e., built like a tank with discrete amp output circuitry, diecast heat sinks, a big power supply, a well-ventilated metal case, banana-plug speaker connections, and it's capable of handling any speaker impedance with a proper rise in power with lower ohms. The FM tuner is fairly sensitive in fringe reception areas. Overall, there is lots of power in reserve and the sound is free of any audible distortion even at high levels. [...]

The Onkyo receiver is simple and replaced a 20 yo Sony receiver. I really needed a phono connection and its fine for my old vinyl. DVD/FM/AM/etc are all fine. Its something the 5 and 10 year old can use.[...]
Comments about Onkyo Onkyo Stereo Receiver - Black Finish:
Great basic receiver, plenty of input/outputs for a stereo system (tape, CD, phono) - especially that hard to find phono jack in inexpensive receivers. Sound is very clean, good power - but the controls for AM/FM tuning are buttin only, no dials. This takes osme getting used to. We don't have home theater or DVD etc so can't say anything about that but for a good basic stero system it fits the bill nicely. Also has a 2 year warranty - unheard of anymore!

I did alot of research before buying the ONKYO TX8222 and am pleased with my purchase. My primary use for this receiver is to listen to vinyl so a phono connection was my priority. This is a solid yet basic receiver. No bells or whistles but has plenty of power and a clean sound. Recommend to anyone looking for basic stereo receiver.

First one I ordered was Defective, second one worked fine. Has a clean sound with no artificial electronic "enhancers" which I find distorts the sound. A basic stereo system that provides clean sound with no frivolous extras.

Needed adequate receiver to power two sets of ceiling speakers and the Onkyo TX8222 does the job.[...] I am very happy with purchase.

Comments about Onkyo Onkyo Stereo Receiver - Black Finish:
I bought the Onkyo TX8222 receiver for a medium priced sysstem with two stereo speakers, turntable, CD changer, and tape deck. Much of the listening would be classical, so I wanted clean sound. I've listened to it with various combinations of sources and with three excellent speaker systems (ADS 810, EPI-100, Polk R300). I was able to compare the sound with that of other older receiver / amps (Sansui Eight, Sansui AU-555A, Denon DRA600) which I had chosen after careful listening. Consumer publications and sales people will often hold that new, high quality amps, due to new technology, will produce essentially perfect sound (WRONG!), and that you should choose electronics based on features. This seems to have resulted in incredibly complicated programming to attract buyers -- you might want to get a degree in computer science before tackling the manual. The sound is not bad, but I'm glad I have my old Sansui units from the '70s. Occasionally I hear a trace of brittleness with the Onkyo (the Denon isn't perfect, either). I don't know whether this is some as yet undocumented form of distortion; you might want to look at numerous web sites that describe TIM, as an example of one hard-to-measure type. Otherwise this unit is very solid, well made and attractive. The FM sensitivity is great and much better than older tuners'. It's nice not to have to walk around the room with a thumb tack stuck on an antenna wire to find your favorite station. I recommend it, but if you are picky about sound, listen closely or get a 30 day exchange agreement.
