Anything new has a learning curve.
I have not upgraded a receiver in a decade which is a lifetime in electronic years. So, I was not upset that I needed to read the instruction manual, which is very well written. Prepare to be bathed in wonderful sounds.

Replaces an older Onkyo product. Solid piece of equipment. [...] This unit is heavy and runs hot- don't put in a cabinet unless you have fan.Otherwise, great piece of gear, not to mention it does everything it says it does. The Audessy set up system for the speakers is really fabulous

[...] Use as my main house system. I have a separate kenwood M2A power amp for the other zones.Great power handling and silkysmooth sound.Onkyo should include an USB input and leave more space between connectors.A tape monitor loop would have been great!

I bought this unit to replace a very good Sony and thought I had made a good decision. I read the many reviews that spoke of how difficult it was to setup and the thick manual that you will be forced to read, but I assumed these people were novices. How wrong was I. I have set up and used many receivers over the years but I have never seen anything like this. It is borderline impossible to set up in a resonable time segment. The functionality is Ok but not worth the effort. I can not recommend the unit and will be going back to a Sony as soon as possible. I am not sure what someone was thinking when they designed this unit and the bad part is that when you call tech support they don't know either. You are on your own with this one. Beware if you thinking about buying an 805 -- the reviews are true.

Product has amazing sound and provides great cable management by outputting all inputs on a single HDMI cable. make sure the stand you have for it is sturdy as its a 60lb receiver as well as has ample space around it for airflow as this receiver does run hot.
