I am just a regular amateur home techy with a terrible ear! This machine was bought as an upgrade to my older receiver that didn't have HDMI outputs, everything sounds good so I cannot comment on whether the quality is so much better than cheaper receivers. I needed something that was silver to match all my other equipment, and capable of filling the large family room with sound for home theater. The machine was easy to set up and use and even easy to set the speaker outputs (very nice feature). A good buy as far as I am concerned.
