I have this receiver because of the fantastic price I was able to get it for. Using it currently in a room that is too small for it, but the price was too good to pass up!

I found the unit hard to set up at first. [...] As it turns out, it was the settings in the Onkyo that was causing the problem (the 2nd support rep. found the problem in 5 minutes). The True HD sound sounds very good but the dolby digital sound doesn't seen to have the dynamic range my Harman Kardon AVR 635 had. I think I need to tweek some of the auto set-ups created by the supplied set-up microphone.

I use it as a home theater and audio center (DVD/ CD/ cable). I'm buying the Onkyo iPOD dock.
Pros: Setup was amazingly easy. The variety of sound fields and the ease of switching between them make this an excellent unit. The receiver does much of the sound field selection automatically, but you can manually override it to select, for example, Pure Audio stereo for your CD. Plenty of power for my 24 x 18 x 8 listening area. The remote is easy to program and the macros make routine listening /viewing selections very simple. THX is a big plus for me.
Cons:The HDMI passthrough restricts screen size if the receiver is not set to a video input. This won't bother most people, but I often browse cable channels while playing the tuner or a CD. There is no USB connection.
