Comments about Onkyo Onkyo Black Stereo Receiver:

This is a good basic receiver, but it not viable for environments with five speakers and a sub-woofer. On the plus side it has a phono connection so one does require a separate phono pre-amp to get the signal to line level.

Comments about Onkyo Onkyo Black Stereo Receiver:

We purchased this receiver to replace a similar Sherwood bought in the mid 80's. The system always sounded heavy in the bass, mid bass, and high frequencies; with a thin mid range - I always thought it was the speakers. When I installed the Onkyo, it sounded like a new system. The audio quality is now balanced and very clean.

This 2 channel system is being used for movies/home theater; we have no interest in multi-channel surround. The FM section seems to perform well, but we are not really using it.

I highly recommend this Onkyo receiver. Its high performance and low cost make it a fantastic value. Abt also sells it for a great price.

it works as advertised
By KarlVerified Purchaser from Peoria, IL on 5/6/2009

Comments about Onkyo Onkyo Black Stereo Receiver:

I needed a traditional receiver capable of driving my old 4 ohm speakers, and this was rated to do that. The sound is fine. The AM section is a bit noisy, but I haven't yet tried routing the antenna leads away from other wires. Not all programming features are available on the remote (eg. FM mono for distant stations), but that's not too important. The layout of the remote is a bit odd, but one will get used to it. While not quite perfect, it is a very good unit. The case could be smaller.
