On/off can not be programed into ATT-Uverse remote. Two seperate buttons have to be pushed on the Onkyo remote to turn off the receiver. It is very easy to forget to turn it off and it may be left on for days if not used or noticed.

Great A/V Receiver for that price. Control over 3rd party devices is weak.
No illumination on the remote.
Missing the eject function when using as a DVD/BD remote.

This is my first Onkyo product so I was a little skeptical. It was also labeled as an entry level receiver. I usually purchase the top of the line, but I already have equipment that does all the features that the top of the line has that this model doesn't, so it made it kind of pointless to spend the extra money. I am glad I purchased this model. The sound is great and abt has it at a great price. I would purchase this model again if given the choice again.

The 608 was very easy to setup with its beautiful on screen displays and easy to use menus. It was an incredible value. The 608 is the only receiver in this price range to be THX certified. Its got plenty of power to rock my house and the sound is very clean. The THX certification really shows.

I've had the unit for 2 months and I've had zero problems with it. The video upscaling and processing is nice to have for the wii and cable. It makes SD channels look noticably better. But the video processing is really secondary to just how great this unit sounds.

The only bad thing I could say about the unit is that it uses Audyssey's 2EQ instead of MultEQ, but I guess there have to be trade offs in units priced this low. Its really amazing Onkyo could include the THX certification, something none of the competition could match.

I am using this receiver to run a 5.1 system. I bought the Onkyo to replace a Denon 2310CI that I was unhappy with. It isn't as sophisticated as the 2310CI but it also costs about $150 less. The auto speaker setup works as advertised but an issue with my center channel speaker keeps me from giving it a solid review on the audio quality at this point. The Onkyo unit appears to crank out the sound very efficiently to my 8/6-ohm speakers.

Overall the Onkyo has not disappointed me.

This receiver sounds great and has many setup options. One problem I ran into during setup was the automated speaker calibration program kept giving me an error message that said my speakers were not connected correctly. I knew the connections were correct and a call to tech support (both Abt and Onkyo) was not helpful. My front speakers have 2 pairs of speaker connections and when I tried the other pair on one of the speakers I notice that a metal plate than connected the two pair was loose. When I tightened that the program ran without a problem (so it wasn't that I had the plugs inserted into the wrong terminal).
A pleasant surprise was not only that it's remote can control my other equipment but my other equipment (Samsung TV & Blu-ray) can talk to the receiver. This isn't clear in the manuals because each manfacturer calls their intercomponent protocol something else but I guess the code is somewhat standardized. So when I turn on or off my TV the receiver follows.

I replaced my old and reliable TXSR600 with this one and have been quite impressed with the improvements. The new 608 is smaller and weighs less than the old 600. I was suspecting that this would compromise the sound quality. But I have been quite impressed with the way this has enhanced my home theater setup.
Everything worked flawlessly during setup. The video upconversion is indeed a blessing. I now have only one HDMI cable connected to my TV (regular 1080p TV - No 3D yet).
The only con is the quality of the remote control. It is quite light weight and one has to be gentle with it - The battery cover already rattles on mine.

Its working as described! the Audessey set up was a breeze and the On-screen menus are really convenient! This system runs really cool as well! My Ps3 and cable box put off more heat then this receiver. Highly recommended!

I owned the 606 which was a great receiver, but the 608 blows it away. The 608 is the best high value, high performing receiver ever created. Sound quality is amazing, and Dynamic Volume is perfect for those annoyingly loud commercials.

Currently setup in a basic 5.1 setting. The automatic speaker calibration makes what use to be complicated setup a cinch. It also has HDMI 1.4 for use with 3D TV's and Blu-ray players in addition to Faroudja video processors, Burr-Brown DACs, and THX certification that until recently were only found in extremely high end receivers. Easily, this is the best valued receiver at this price point.

The sound quality was absolutely amazing. It made my speakers really shine. Easy to use and easy to setup as well.

Got this on an insane pre-order deal and would have paid twice as much had I known how good it was going to be. This thing runs cool and silent has all the features you're looking for. Connect your entire system in minutes. The only real con That comes to mind is the lack of amp pre outs, so if you are trying to blow the block down then you may want something higher end. For "entry" level this thing destroys everything else in its class.

Very intuitive and easy set-up. Nice integrated on-screen interface that shows settings and volume bar. Everything is hooked up via HDMI to the receiver and the receiver to the TV via HDMI. Can't get more simple than that.

I recently joined the 21st Century and set up a 5.1 surround system with this receiver as the heart of it. It offers more power and channels than I can currently take advantage of so I don't feel like I will be needing to replace it for a long time if ever. Very good for the dollar if you don't need internet streaming.

Sound is almost comprable to my TX-NR1007 and functionality is almost identical except for the 1007's advanced features.

MultiEQ would have been nice for my sub, but after tweaking I'm very pleased with it.

The receiver powers a large room without a problem. The sound quality improvement was easily noticed coming from a lesser powered Sony. Setup was easy and precise. The unit does not run hot like previous generations.

More than enough power to to push my paradigm reference system,very easy setup,gui is a very nice feature compared to my yamaha.receiver runs very cool.There is clicking at times when it changes sources but I like it because I can tell what it changes to.The audyssey EQ works just fine.Its there for a starting point,your going to tweak it anyway.Its a nice unit and I'm happy with it.
