I ordered this mini-system after studying reviews and listening to alternatives until I was becoming bewildered. Among the many mini- and micro-systems available, this one, in my thinking, offers the best compromise of all. I say, "compromise," because it is impractical to expect a compact system like this, and at this price, to perform as well as a large system with huge 3-way floor speakers and hundreds of watts RMS power to drive them. Do not expect thunderous bass at lower volume levels, but DO expect tight bass and clarity of sound, with ample tonal controls to tailor audio response to your liking. Similarly, don't expect to fill a large room with concert-level sound; this system is best suited to dorm rooms, small dens and offices where space is at a premium. I rated this system "five-stars" based upon comparison with similar offerings, and recommend it over the Denon DM37 with a much higher price tag. The only possible limitation with this system is the unavailability of extra inputs and outputs, but one must accept this system for what it is, and for what it is not. I've enjoyed my system at the office for over a month now, playing it every day, and it has performed flawlessly, typical of Yamaha's high-end electronics. Did I say, "high-end?" Yes, indeed. Check out the technical write-ups on this system, and you will find that it has the same heavy power supply and amplifier circuitry found in their high-end offerings. Obviously, I'm quite pleased with this product, and if you know what you're buying, I'm certain you will be, too, with this mini-system.
