Comments about Sony Sony Black Sound Bar Home Theater System:
We have a room with very limited options for wiring and almost no wall space. These limitations have kept us from enhancing the sound for our TV. We finally tried the Sony sound bar and were worried that it might not give us a great experience. But we are delighted with the sound. It provides great enhancement to movies and does a very good job with music. The sound bar was easy to set up, doesn't clutter up our living room and has vastly improved our listening experience. The only small thing that is less than perfect is the remote control, which requires us to press about three buttons between two remotes to turn the whole system on. (Perhaps there is a better way and we just haven't figured it out.)
Very prompt delivery. Product in perfect condition.

This is not going to replace your 5.1 or 7.1 surround system, but it'll do fine in an apartment, or in a house that you don't plan on living in for the rest of your life. Very easy setup, loud (to a degree), and clear sound. It's just not really surround sound. The sound bar gives it a great try, but it falls short of true surround (because the speakers are in front of you!). Gamers would appreciate it, but I'm more of a movie buff. Terminator 2 sounded unbalanced, whereas any of the remastered Star Wars DVDs sounded good. Wall*E sounded as good as it did on a friends 5.1 system, so it may just be a DVD mixing issue. The sound bar will also hook up to some of the new (smaller) Bravia TVs, and includes the hardware to make that happen. The end result is an attractive combo that looks like it was meant to be. If you have a lot of time on your hands, you can use trial and error to position the soundbar just right so it hits the walls, ceiling, and corners in such a way as to give you the startling surround experience most audiophiles crave. Or, you can just plug it in and enjoy it for what it is.

I moved into a house with a smaller living room. The layout was not speaker-in-the-corner wire friendly, so I looked for a less invasive alternative. After checking out a similar system at a local retailer, I decided I would try the sound bar and subwoofer option. I have owned a 7.1 JBL surround system and top-of-the-line receiver costing well over 6x the price of this system and it sounded like it. This sound bar/subwoofer/receiver setup doesn't come close, but it does provide clear and crisp sound in a smaller room. It takes a little while to find the perfect placement, as the sound needs to bounce off the walls to simulate rear speakers. But once it's set, it seems to do the job. Music sounds great, and movies with a lot of dialogue are easy to understand, but you may feel the surround sound lacking.
