When we bought our used home 10 years ago this same Whirlpool Trash Compactor was in the kitchen, and it certainly wasn't new; so I estimate it's age when it died a couple of months ago as 15+ years. It served us well, never jamming or breaking down. Our only complaint was it's somewhat noisy operation (but so what - the cycle is less than a minute), and the drawer didn't roll smoothly. But it's durability was enough of a positive for us to buy another. The new one is a little quieter, and the drawer rolls fine. Except for the cosmetics it's the identical machine - which is a good thing!
