Comments about Sony Sony Black 4.8" Portable Satellite Navigation System:
Rural LocationsFast to find routes, accurate routes, easy to pick up new directions from missed turns.Populated locations (experienced in Minneapolis/St. Paul), directions to on-off ramps and transfers happened too slowly. More direct routes using logic was vastly superior (Eden Prairie ramps to the hotel, highway routes from Mall of America) are calculated horrendously by this unit (such as taking the wrong direction to get home). How the unit calculated these 'prefered' routes are beyond explanation and [*] frustrating to drive with in busy traffic. A road map and compass would be better than this unit in these conditions. Not a GPS to trust in a highly populated location to get you where you want to go - without having to have some decent navigation skills yourself. These problems were experienced with the latest version of the software - downloaded off the Sony site. I only hope that Sony will continue to update the software for this device, as its current level is poor at best.I did like the size of this unit, the portability/slimness of the packaging to move from car to car or storing, and the ability to store a variety of locations in its memory.Things I would improve; maps, multiple choice routes to choose from (Toyota nav I had in Japan had a choice of 5-routes for relatively painless navigation), battery life, other mounting options/equipment where the 'super suction cup' cannot be used.Overall a great unit with room for lots of improvement with its software.
Delivery was very prompt once the unit was in stock. The package was in great shape and met/exceeded all my expectations. Dealing with ABT was a wonderful experience, and will do more business with them in the future - fully confident.
