This boombox does the job. I would have preferred a CD/radio only unit that was somewhat smaller. Coby makes one but their quality is not to the same standard as Sony. I haven't used the remote and will probably never try it. I will also never use the cassette.

I bought this boombox so that I could play a guitar lesson CD that came with the lesson book. Frankly my expectations for this unit were low given the price, however I was pleasantly surprised to discover how good it actually sounds. The Mega Bass feature works well and the speakers deliver amazingly good sound despite their small size. I've owned larger boomboxes in the past that didn't sound as good.

The only two complaints I have are 1) AM reception is okay but not great, and 2) there's no external input jack for hooking up an MP3 player or other audio device. But given the price you just can't go wrong with this unit.

I bought this boombox last week. I am generally pleased with the sound quality and the cassette player considering the price. I can't say the same about the radio. When I turned it on, I was sorely disappointed to find that it could not pick up certain radio stations without alot of distortion and static. These same stations were easily picked up by my previous radios in the same spot in the kitchen. Needless to say, I am returning this product to the retail store tomorrow.

We use this boombox to put on some music or story for our daughters at bed time. We love the sleep feature because it actually cuts off power to the boombox after a set time. So far only feature I do not like is that once the power is turned off the volume sets back to the factory setting which is too loud so I have to adjust the volume every night.

I record music cassettes from cds to use in my low impact and aerobics and yoga classes at a senior center in town. The social hall is big, and since some seniors have trouble hearing, I was concerned that the volume would be loud enough for those in the back of the room to hear. The Sony boombox has great sound. My last $40.00 no name box had very tinny sound. I was embarassed to use it. Though the boombox might be considered obsolete, it's perfect for my use. Sony products are top of the line.

Mom's birthday list included a portable stereo that had AM/FM, CD player, and a cassette player (yes, she still has cassettes) that she could use in her crafts room. I read all the reviews I could get my hands on and the Sony CFDS350SIL was consistently mentioned as a best buy - so I bought it and had it drop-shipped to Mom. She absolutely loves it! It does everything she wants and has great sound to boot. I've owned many Sony products over the years, have yet to be disappointed, and I wasn't disappointed this time. Great product!

It's a Sony and that usually means quality. I wanted a boom box with a tape player but it's not included on the remote which is a little disappointing. And it doesn't have a mute for the radio but all in all it's pretty nice and does the job.

Most of the time I use it for background music when I am doing office work or reading. Otherwise it is used for news, sports, and relaxing music. Definitely a good radio, cassette player (still have my favorite cassettes from the past century!) and CD player for quality sound in office, model train room and bedroom.

I bought this because(1)of the brand...and again, I was not disappointed with Sony; (2)so my wife could play my recorded CD-mp3's of her recorded keyboard music...the unit does this great. (3) it looked easy to transport for use at church...it is. It has a big handle that folds into the unit.(4) The sound is usually very good with Sony. This unit's sound is high on the treble side. (reason why I didn't give 5-star rating) There is very little bass, but the sound is very clear. (5) It is a descent price-under [$].(6) It could run on electric with the power cord as well as be used with batteries.I would definitely buy this same unit again.Jim

I waited until I used this item for a while before I submitted a review. For the money, this is a very good piece of equipment. I used it in an area that had very poor reception. The receiver worked better than a lot of other receivers I have tried. The sound quality was average to good for the size of the unit. Since it has no external inputs for an MP3 player or portable DVD player, I used the receiver and a small wireless link to use those devices with the radio. All went very well, but the batteries died too quickly for my taste. I also noticed that there are no tone controls (bass & treble), so I had to depend on the controls in the MP3 player to improve the quality. Yes, there's a bass boost button, but it had less than desired effect. Again, the speakers are the culprit and there's not much one can do about that.

After spending a week in the middle of nowhere with the radio, it passed my expectations.

I purchased this Sony for use on my desk in my office (to replace an old Aiwa unit). I like the design and it has a fairly small footprint, but the sound is average (at best!) at the low volumes required in an office setting. The old Aiwa unit also had a base boost, and it was very effective at low volumes. This unit was a bit disappointing for the purpose purchased. However, typical of Sony, it is made well. If you listen at room-filling volumes, the sound is very good for such a small unit.

overall this is a great stereo for the price. the sound quality is as expected if not slightly more powerful. The volume has a good range and i find the sleep setting to be a nice addition. This is a fine unit. I found the sound to be especially crisp and clear, for the radio as well as the CD player. The remote is easy to use, and controls ALL of the functions, including power on/off. The units pushbutton controls are easy to understand and use. I also liked the esthetic, attractive exterior design, which includes a completely integrated, strong carrying handle. The handle fits in so well with the overall shape of the unit that it took me a while to discover that it WAS a handle. For those who like to fall asleep to music, there is also a built-in sleep timer. There are a couple of negatives - the "Mega Bass" enhancement is practically non-existent, but the inherent sound quality makes that a non-issue. The only other problem is one that I have with all radios manufactured in the last 5 years, which is that a digital tuner might be more efficient and cheaper to manufacture, but it cannot hold a candle to an analog tuner when it comes to focusing in weak stations. All in all, however, this is a very fine unit for the price.

The unit is "ok" but not much better than what I would expect from a "no name brand" at a lower price. Radio reception and comtrols are below Sonys normal standards.
