Great product - One major drawback

Comments about Sony Sony ICFCD555TV:

The only drawback is that the connectors at the back exit horizontally, and the unit is too deep to fit correctly under the cabinet.

This is a serious design flaw that nearly resulted in me returning it.

To get it to fit I had to make my own custom connectors that allowed me to angle the cable to 90deg within 1/2" of the rear of the unit. Even with this I had to fit it probably 1/4" further forward than it should have been.

It's a great TV/Radio, but fitting it under a regular cabinet is a nightmare!

I would only reccomend this unit to people who have the necessary depth, or are prepared to cut a hole in their wall (we were not).

Sony Under Cabinet TV
By MJL from Lincolnwood on 1/8/2007
Pros:
Attractive Design, Great Picture, Reduced Glare
Cons:
Difficult to Setup

Comments about Sony Sony ICFCD555TV:

Great product once installed. Picture clarity and color are truly outstanding; audio quality of AM/FM very close to Bose Wave when in Expand mode. It's better for the purpose than anything else I've seen. Now for the negative: the spacers supplied by Sony are ingeneous in that they allow proper offset from cabinet by simply rotating them. The problems are that it is easy to have one or more out of adjustment with respect to the others and, more importantly, that they are quite wide. This may make under-cabinet installation more difficult, depending on your cabinet configuration. Also, you are going to need an elbow cable connector such that you can connect the cable parallel to the back of the set. The straight back connection on the set would require you have more space to the wall or back of cabinet than you are likely to have. [...]

Tight Sqeeze
By Weekend WarriorVerified Purchaser from Western Springs, IL on 10/16/2006
Pros:
Attractive Design, Great Picture, Simple Controls
Cons:
Difficult to Setup
Best Uses:

Comments about Sony Sony ICFCD555TV:

The coaxial cable connector on this set is positioned in such a way that it is impossible to attach the cable to both the set and the wall outlet. There was no way for the cable to fit into the TV and bend the required 90 degrees to meet the wall outlet. I had to buy a right angle adapter to connect the cable to the set. Since my kitchen cabinets are standard depth, Sony should have provided a right angle adapter with the set or designed it so that the cable could be easily connected. However, the picture quality is outstanding!

Good so far...
By Kris the cookVerified Reviewer from Sherman Oaks, CA on 5/31/2006
Pros:
Easy Controls, Easy To Set Up
Cons:
Depth too large
Best Uses:
Kitchen only

Comments about Sony Sony ICFCD555TV:

Yes, the picture is small. But when the kids are watching their cartoons on the big TV, and I want to hear the news while I'm cooking dinner, it's perfect. The only problem I had was that the depth was too large for my cabinets, and I had a problem fitting it completely under the bainets because of the cables behind the unit. I had to cut a hole into my tile backsplash to allow the cables room so that the unit wouldn't stick out so far. So keep the cables in mind when measuring for this unit. For such a small TV, the picture is quite good and the sound is GREAT. I am really enjoying this.
