I use this recorder for watching movies, and for transferring old home videos from VHS to DVD. Both work wonderfully, though you should keep the manual. You can skip most of this and go directly to watching movies pretty quick, but unraveling the DVD/VHS features is a pretty steep curve.
Powerful at the backend and easy to get started - it's a good combination so far.
