all that techno-babble:no one so sophisticated is buying anything so inexpensive. too bad for them! this is one gorgeous high quality unit-sleek, no flashing lights, no useless clock, remote is perfect size and easiest to use i have seen, picture and sound quality are excellent. i set it up in 30 seconds-not a geek--just a feminine blonde who doesn't like user-hostile products.in last 2 years, had 2 dvd players,COBY and JVC and they were awful to set-up, to use and terrible quality.

To be honest,I don,t see the picture quality any different than my other dvd player.Kind of disappointed.The reason I brought this dvd player because it could play most the format out there.

Comments about Pioneer Pioneer HDMI Progressive Scan DVD Player In Black:

I have had my HDTV about two years and tolerated low quality DVD picture because my Tivo was integrated with a DVD player and I didn't want another box due to limited shelf space. Tivo died and I didn't renew, but went with the cable company DVR box. A popular consumer magazine recommended this player. [...] With HDMI my set up was 15 minutes or less. Would have been less but I needed a HDMI switcher since my two year old TV didn't have two HDMI ports. The set up menu was a simple walk thru. Easy to pick your preferred resolution, 720p or 1080i (mine).In addition, I looks great in black,matching my TV nicely. It is also razo thin so it looks very hi tech. I got "Appocalypto" figuring it would be a good test with lots of color and detail. Huge difference from standard DVD player. Hard to tell the difference from HD cable signal. Maybe with a 52" screen you could spot some difference, but with my 40" set, it was tough to tell.Definitely a great buy until the format wars are over and I am ready to trade up to a 1080p set and probably BlueRay. But for now,I am very happy with the results and price. For less than [$]I won't sweat retiring this model in two years or less to a second set.

I returned this product. It is not that it was bad, but I was disappointed that it wasn't better - for the price. I knew I could get the same quality at lower prices.

Best DVD I could find at the price. It really does do much more than any other competing unit at the <1$100 level. I'll bet that it has the same chips in it that the high priced ones do, but sells in such volume that they are able to keep the price down.

Comments about Pioneer Pioneer HDMI Progressive Scan DVD Player In Black:

Pioneer is the only one that has the last play feature; I could be wrong, but I have never seen other players doing this;
The only draw back of DVD, VCD over tapes is the ability to resume from last scene. Pioneer has fixed this problem.
I can play a movie half way; turn it off (power if off, remove the DVD); I can later come back and continue exactly where I has stopped the movie; How cool is that!
I don't know how many DVDs the player can remember, but it remmembers more than 1 DVD; You can turn this feature off, so don't tell me it has a "con" on this feature.

Comments about Pioneer Pioneer HDMI Progressive Scan DVD Player In Black:

I bought this model after trying the Helios Neodigit H4000 which claimed to do 1080p upscaling also. It did not because it had a hard time with certain models and using HDMI. Helios said it was because an HDMI handshaking issue. This Pioneer model did not have this problem! It was the first thing I tested and it worked just like it should. I have yet to try out the divx player but I am sure it works fine. I just needed a dvd player that would play my 300+ collection of regular dvds before I jumped onto the true HD bandwagon. If you are looking for a medium to hold you over till you get your HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player this is definitely a great solution and for the price you should have one in the bedroom and in your family room.This is my second Pioneer DVD player and if this one lasts as long as the first then I will be happy. My only grip and really is not that big of a deal is it is a little slow when trying to turn on and open the drive bay. Just something to get used to.Oh and this does play DVD+R dual layers at least the ones we have tried. This was a problem in older dvd players and seems to work great in this one.It also does not come with an HDMI cable but you really should buy a high quality one anyway they never include the high quality cables.Overall this is worth more than the [$] I paid.

"One mistake kills it all"

Comments about Pioneer Pioneer HDMI Progressive Scan DVD Player In Black:

I was thrilled by all the features this dvd player holds till I found something very disappointed: A very poor browser for mp3 file tracks.They can not be selected by using numbers.Just by scrolling up and down and the control remote does not have a(+10)bottom. Try to select a far away file track like 190 or so, from a mp3 cd. Another issue is when you zoom. Even on the first step the image looks like a VHS. Other than that this dvd payer is great!!!
