When looking for a Blu-ray DVD player for my family, I once again turned to Abt for not only quality, but also competitive pricing. The customer appreciation cost of [$], for a 2nd gen, Samsung Blu-ray enticed me to give it a try. [...] Fantastic! So pleased with my deal!

Comments about Samsung Samsung Black Blu-ray Player:

I made a deal with my wife that when Blu-Ray players dropped below $200, we could get one as we needed a DVD player upstairs. This was the product I researched that had all the qualities I thought I needed. It doe snot play DVD+R/RW's so I cannot give it the perfect rating. SO far, Blu-Ray has been a decent experience. SOme movies are worth renting in Blu-Ray and some are worth renting in Blu-Ray. The Dark KNight is worth owning. You get the full Blu-Ray experience. The only other annoying thing about this player is the blue light on the power button when turned off. The Samsung TV I have does the same thing. I would prefer no lights at all.

Comments about Samsung Samsung Black Blu-ray Player:

I was looking for a good Blue-Ray player that was not expensive but still top quality. I have a Samsung TV and found that Samsung was rated high so I took a chance. I am very satisfied, easy two minute setup if you use a HDMI cable (which gives the best quality). Simple menu and the disk loads fast. I also connected it to my wireless router and it advises when firmware upgrades are available, I have downloaded and installed two without any problems.
The only con is it is a bit noisy when the disk loads but that doesn't matter, no issues after it loads.
Very satified.

Very simple set-up. Only two connections: one HDMI cable to my Samsung LN52A550, and one eithernet cable to my router. The update via a software download was very simple, and easy. The picture is beautiful. So far my family have watched 3 movies: Seven Years in Tibet (Blu), The Patriot (Blu), and Legally Blonde (DVD). The upconversion on the DVD was very good. Bought after Black Friday for [$]. It takes a little while to startup, however I am very happy with the purchase.

Bought Thanksgiving weekend, slight delay due to backorder. Delivered about a week before Christmas.

Comments about Samsung Samsung Black Blu-ray Player:

Great audio and video quality! Some blu-ray discs load slow, but that might be due to the large amount of data. I've had some issues with movies freezing (can be fixed by scrolling forward a little), not sure if this was caused by the player or the rental discs, but this happened at least once on 3 out of the first 5 movies that I watched.

Comments about Samsung Samsung Black Blu-ray Player:

I currently have not updated to the latest firmware (2.1) but intend to soon. The shipped unit plays all my blu-ray movies without issues. I own Transformers, 300, Superbad, and Knocked Up. I have not tried any regular DVDs yet. Load time is a little slow, but that's expected. Image quality is excellent. I use the HDMI connection and my HDTV looks great! I highly recommend this unit. I've heard Sony and Panasonic also make good units. Remember to purchase a 2GB usb drive if you upgrade the firmware.

Service & Delivery comments:

ABT provides excellent service. This item was originally backordered and they provided me up to date information on my order with no hassles. Shipping was excellent and the item was shipped in a larger box and well padded.

Comments about Samsung Samsung Black Blu-ray Player:

Don't worry about buying Blu-ray discs for your favorite movies. Just rent from Netflix. Now they have more than 1000 titles. Most of them are new movies, of course. Other movies are available as DVD, which can also be played on this machine.

When this player being used with Samsung LCD TV (I use it with Samsung LN46A550), the TV remote can also control play/stop of the Blu-ray player. When you turn off the TV when the player is playing a DVD/Blu-ray, the player is also automatically turned off. This is very convenient.

The only thing that I do not care for about this player is that it is farily loud when loading, which I believe is just the optical head moving, however you never notice it during movies, so it really does not matter.

Comments about Samsung Samsung Black Blu-ray Player:

After waiting for the format war to end, I started researching and reviewing what I needed to get going in the HD market. I got my HDTV and now my first blu-ray player. I couldn't ask for a better first entry equipment. The loads are quick (compared to those I tried out at stores), the picture quality is perfect, and best of all the price was simply attainable. Samsung got it right with this one!

BDP1500 - almost there
By DeenVerified Purchaser from New York, NY on 6/25/2008
Pros:
Easy To Set Up, Easy To Use, High Quality Picture
Cons:
No coaxial output
Best Uses:
Home
Describe Yourself:
Gearhead
Bottom Line:

Comments about Samsung Samsung Black Blu-ray Player:

At this price point the BDP-1500 is a great deal - still a few refinements are needed before it gets 5 stars. 1. The 1500 only has HDMI and optical audio outputs. If you have a high-end home theater system you'll miss the coaxial output as copper gives noticeably better sound than fiber optic. 2. I use the 1500 with a 6 series Samsung TV. While the TV can control the 1500, their remotes do not have overlapping functions meaning you still need two remotes to run products designed to work together. 3. The power cord on the 1500 is hard wired meaning you can't swap it out for a higher quality cord. All in all, it's a great player - but not perfect - yet.

Comments about Samsung Samsung Black Blu-ray Player:

I just switched from HD-DVD to Blu-Ray, and was shopping for a unit that had next generation features and was not a fortune either.

The BD-1500P is just what I needed at a reasonable price. The discs load and unload real fast - which is a feature lacking on the Toshiba. The picture is great and the sound is good too. A firmware upgrade to HD-Master audio is promised soon.

The only CON I have is that by default, it chooses 1080p as the video mode, and I currently have a 1080i TV, so I had to use some component cables to tell the player to choose a different resolution via the on-screen menus - which is the only way to set up. They should have down-graded the default.

Oh, and the wait. While all the Blu-Ray manufacturers are upgrading features after winning the war, there has been quite a wait to get models out. Samsung has the features and the price I was willing to pay. ABT got the units fairly quickly once released around the 1st of June. I see they are backordered again - with good reason. Glad I got my order in.
