Comments about Sony Sony 1080p Upconverting Black DVD Player:

I have just watched all three extended edition Lord of the Rings movies on a 50" 1080p and was well pleased. I can't beleive that for the $$ a BluRay could do much better.

Comments about Sony Sony 1080p Upconverting Black DVD Player:

I got this because I wanted HDMI upconverting to 1080p but did not want to spend Blu-Ray $$ yet. I may forego Blu-Ray altogether now. The upconverted picture is great ("The Incredibles" was truly incredible) and it mates well with my Sony Bravia TV. Audio output is adequate for small HT, but I would not use it as CD player for music. Highly recommended.

Comments about Sony Sony 1080p Upconverting Black DVD Player:

I made the decision to get this upconverting DVD player since the HD-DVD demise and the uncertainty of Blu-Ray. I wanted the HD quality but didn't want to through money into the wind. I decided that upconverting was the way to go for now. That said I am SO impressed with the picture quality that I just may not ever switch. Great player and it integrates with my Sony A/V Receiver and my Bravia TV.

Comments about Sony Sony 1080p Upconverting Black DVD Player:

Works fine. Picture is very good. Seems to be a very good player.

3 Pros--
1. It's a SONY...that means a lot when it comes to quality.

2. Remote can control TV also.

3. Instruction booklet actually makes sense (for the most part) and that is not the norm for most tech devices.

2 Cons--
1. It's all black and the button labels are also very dark and hard to see. I put color coding buttons on the eject and the on/off just so I could find them quickly since our player sits on a bottom shelf of the TV stand.

2. Small complaint but the HDMI blue indicator light is SO BRIGHT it is an eyesore.

The Sony was easy to set up and performed admirably. It gives a great picture and is easy to use. With the high cost of HD and BluRay, this is a low cost alternative and highly satisfying.

HDMI interface made an amazing improvement in standard def DVD's picture quality on my new HD LCD television. VERY worth the money.

Service & Delivery comments:

Very pleased with the quality of how Abt packed the DVD in the shipping box. Bottom of the package lined with bubble wrap sheets, and all remaining space padded with air-bag fillers so no shifting would occur. Wanted to change the color 1 day after I order, and had no problem doing so with customer service on-line support. Would DEFINITELY order from Abt again.

Comments about Sony Sony 1080p Upconverting Black DVD Player:

Simple and easy to set up, this player offers a cheap entry-level upconverting DVD player. I had no problems hooking this unit up to my Samsung LN-T3232 LCD. It has performed quite well and I got what I was expecting from a player at this tier. I like the fact that, unlike my old JVC, there is not an annoying bright blue strip light on the lower half of the unit. In fact there are a bare minimum of LED's to distract your eyes. The only thing I can say that some might consider negative is that if you hook this player up using RCA cables you will have an annoying humming sound bleeding over on to your audio output. So HDMI cables are definately a must with this unit.

[...]This a great companion to my SONY 40 inch 1080P HD TV. If you are not ready to make the move to Blueray or HD this DVD player works great. Pictures on new DVD's and old are remarkable. If you are using 1080P you need progressive scan to utilize your TV's capabilities.

It is what it is. An excellent unit for its price. The main reasion I chose this was past experence with Sony brand and to intergrate with my Sony home theater. I love the upconvert. It makes my non HD DVD's look good with my HD tv. It has nice features for what it cost.

Comments about Sony Sony 1080p Upconverting Black DVD Player:

I purchased this DVD player to watch DVD's on my new Sony KDL26S3000 LCD HD TV. The connection to the TV is via the HDMI output. As with most new devices with HDMI connectivity, the cable is not included. I picked up a generic cable at my local electronics store. Don't fall for the ultra expensive HDMI cables. For moderate cable length (six feet or so), you do not need to buy a cable that costs more than the DVD player! For CD listening, I have a coax connection to my NAD C340 amplifier which drives a pair of Polk Audio RT-8 towers. Picture quality of DVD's played on this combination is incredible. CD listening is great also. This DVD player is amazing slim. I have not seen a sleeker unit. Good remote. I am quite happy.

Comments about Sony Sony 1080p Upconverting Black DVD Player:

A HUGE difference on my HDTV set. My old DVD player was a solid workhorse, but on a high def tv, the dvds still looked grainy. But, the new upconverting player, along with an HDMI cable, does a nice job of playing movies in almost true HD. I watch a lot of DVDs (a lot of time it's background viewing as I'm going about my day), and this one makes the visual aspect of my movie watching that much better. [$] it's a better value than going into an HD DVD or Bluray player. And, standard DVDs are much cheeper than the "true HD" movies. Great product, easy to use, and a great value.
