This is a good machine for the money. [...]It handles both high def and non-high def dvd's with upscaling capability. Blue-Ray won't play your oldies like this.
I don't know who is going to win the battle for
high Def DVD. But, for what I paid it was worth
it to get in the game and enjoy both High def DVD & sound now!

The unit does a fine job of upgrading non-HD DVDs to 1080i resolution. Excellent picture quality.

This 1st generation HD DVD player by Toshiba represents an excellent value enabling extremely high quality playback of HD-DVD, upconverted standard DVD, and CD media.
Will also play back DVD+R/-R and RW.
Next generation versions will probably have faster start-up and load times, but quality and flexibility of components will likely go down as cost reduction becomes the key criteria.
