Comments about Yamaha Yamaha HDMI Black DVD Single Player:

I'm not a huge videophile, and don't know much about Yamaha (or mass-market mid-fi) but it seems the Oppos get all the press for less $$ and the Denons are the choice at this price and above. I can say the 2ch sound through a highly resolving system on CD, SACD and DVD-A is VERY good, distressingly close to my $5K CD rig, and noticeably better than the similar DVD-S1700 it replaced, mainly for this reason. The video processing has all the latest tricks nicely implemented, the menus are comprehensive and logical, the remote and run-time flexibility outstanding. I can't see the need to get a more expensive universal player until you're up to the $3K+ Esoterics, Marantz, etc.
