Bought this 3 weeks ago when the VCR portion of our old SONY two in one CD/VCR player died. Overall, there isn't much choice out there if you still want VCR capability.

Hoped to hook it up quickly to our old Dish Satellite Box and a not-too-old TV (3 years). Immediately, I was confronted that the Toshiba unit did not have a coaxial input/output. Both of my other two units were coaxial as their primary inputs and outputs. I had to go shopping for S-Video connection for TV. Used the stereo-type coaxials (L, R, and Video) for satellite box connections. This worked, however for any signal to get to my TV, the DVD must be on and if there is a DVD in the compartment, the motor is always spinning it. Supplimental instructions gave instructions on how to hook this up in parallel. I'm not really wanting to do this, because it doubles the number of wires. Not sure what will be harder to train my family to do: turn off the DVD when done watching TV or using alternate video inputs on the TV.

Previous user's comments about no buttons on the machine and only being able to use the remote is not accurate. They obviously never flipped the plastic cover down or read the instructions.

DVD's take longer to load than my old SONY unit. This may be due to more acceptable formats. My old SONY was having trouble running newly made DVD's. Not sure of the format issues, but this machine can play them all with no problems.

One good benefit of using the S-Video connection is a better TV quality. Didn't know it was a problem until I used the new connection. This is a strong argument for not connecting in parallel.

Remote control is intuitive. My wife quickly picked up on the changes.

I have yet to try to DVR. I'm still stuck in old recording habits by recording onto VHS the TV shows I desire to view. Will take the jump soon, though.

Darn, I'm soundling like my dad learning to use a computer in the '80s. Feeling old. Thanks Toshiba.

I would highly recommend this product. It has many RC (& other) jacks for different inputs & outputs. I found to use DVD+RW (with "+") will let you record more than 1 hour, DVD-RW will not! Easy to use if you do each step.

The DVD/Combo was easy to install and in minutes I was able to transfer old VCR tapes into DVD formats. It's pretty sleek looking and I'm quite satisfied with its performance. Definitely would recommend to others who are looking to dub their old VCR tapes to DVDs.

Great product, instruction manual was not correct so had to call Toshiba as I couldn't get it to record. Once the directions were corrected worked like a charm!

I wanted to copy my VCR tapes to DVD. The directions were very easy to follow and the machine was very easy to use. I was going to have an outside source copy my home movies for me, but it would have cost me hundreds of dollars. The Toshiba Black DVD VCR Combo Recorder - DVR620 did exactly what I wanted to do at an economical cost.

I use the product primarily for dubbing VHS tapes to DVD. Unit has been reliable and produces good video results. Titling the DVD is a bit clumsy.

I use the product to convert VHS to DVD. So far, the machine has been holding up just fine, after making about 8 discs. I say this because others have reported even Panasonics failing pretty quickly.

It's also easy to use, though the instructions could be more clear for the non-ethusiast or power user. The only other con I can think of, and this may be a limitation of the media, is that in order to be able to insert chapters where I want, rather than automatically, I need to use DVD+R, not DVD-R. I have quite a few DVD-R.

I bought this unit specifically to dub my VHS tapes to DVD. This unit even offers editing out commercials when using a +R disc. I haven't tried it yet but will soon.

My experience has been fabulous. The directions for dubbing are spot on!

My next venture will be copying things I TIVO to the DVD.

Overall, I am well pleased with this unit.

I bought this machine to convert analog home videos to DVDs. Using the highest quality settings it does a very reasonable job. Worth the effort. The menus on the newly created DVDs are rather plain and a bit hard to name. Editing is a bit tricky but is possible.

I use it to back up vhs and hi-8 camcorder tapes. It consistently works well and am pleased with the speed in which it dubs and finalizes to dvd. The instructions were a bit convoluted that I had to at times put it away and figure it out logically (which, fortunately, worked).

product works well and alot faster than a different product that i was using. to open and close the disc drive i have to use the button, because it is difficult to push in by hand. the manuel is a little confusing also. otherwise i like the product.

Great for recording shows from my DVR to DVD. Transferred old VHS movies to DVD. Also found a VGA converter so I could download stuff off YouTube and the like to DVD.

After using the Go-Video machine for four years to dub my VHS tape collection to DVD I was wondering if I would ever finish. In two months I've done more with the Toshiba machine that I previously did in two years, with better image and sound.

Note that I deliberately bought the version with no tuner. I wanted a dedicated machine for just this task. However, if I ever buy another VHS recorder the version of this machine with the tuner would definitely be considered.

I primarily bought it to transfer one 4 minute video, that I needed for legal reasons, from a Hi-8 video camcorder to DVD because it was just as cheap to buy this unit as have it transferred by a transfer service.

I was well pleased with how easy it was to set-up and use. I now plan on transferring all of the Hi-8 and VHS videos of my kids growing up and family events onto DVDs. This unit is really a good one at any price, and a true bargain at what ABT is selling it for.

I gave Toshiba DVD VCR Combo Recorder - DVR6 20 to my son to use . He is happy with it. I bought this Toshiba DVD VCR Combo Recorder - DVR620 because good price from Abt and it has better rating from users in internet than most other brands.
Mainly to convert the old VHS tapes to DVD.
We did not have it too long (that why it has only 4 star rating - other star is for Lasting) . Hope it last!
Also bought extended warranty.

Instruction book tends to beat around the bush on some topics not fully answering questions you may have. DVD recordings made from VCR tend to wash out portions of the video and does not reproduce excatly what is seen on the video tape. Haven't figured out how to label chapters before DVD is finalized. Machine, overall, is pretty good and operates as advertized.
