The HDMI cable was defective. The installer
had to use one that he had on the truck.

Once it was up and going it works great.

I was a DirecTV customer for 5 years. Every time I upgraded a TV to HD in my home it was annoying that I needed to buy a new box that supported HD. Why do they charge for this? When I bought this last box I was surprised that they were still going to try and force another 2 year contract extension on me even though I have been a (loyal) customer for so long. 2 year contract for upgrading a box - that I HAVE to buy... Really DirecTV?

OK, so I had enough. I decided I won't commit to 2 years with DTV. I told them I don't want the box because of the 2 year contract. DTV tells me they cannot take the box back - really? At my wits end, I chalk up the $200 and decide to get rid of DTV. All the other companies now offer RedZONE (The NFL package was the last reason I was keeping DTV). I am now a happy FIOS user. I no longer miss shows when a storm passes through my neighborhood... I am also saving $60/month and internet speed has doubled.

So my review of this box (I had 3 others) -setup is easy. Picture quality if very good. The response lag is maddening. Why does it take so long from when you hit a button for the box to respond. DTV is a dinosaur. I hope a different fiber optic choice moves into your neighborhood and you too can experience the TV how it was meant to be...

Best DirecTV receiver to date. Much faster than previous models, plus I like the fact that it now has a light for 1080P. The front panel is nice...no more buttons, just touch sensitive interface. A excellent upgrade for older units. ABT is the place to buy it.

DirecTV activation was excellent and fast. No problems here.

Before one of 2 firmware updates took place, DVR would go directly to delete even though you could see the disk space was being consumed. After firmware update #2 problem went away.

Some channel icons do not appear on the blue banner that were there when I had the old H20 HD receiver. Not sure why this is.

I wish DirecTV still had the off-air tuner built in to the HR24 DVR. The separate AM21 tuner works OK but not as sensitive as the tuner I had in my H20 using a Winegard outdoor antenna. AM21 also has its own problems like dropped channels for no reason. Several rescans solved problem but I never had to do this on my other TV's with digital tuners.

Was easy to set up as an upgrade from standard def Directv receiver, except it did not contain the B Band Converters necessary to complete the connection. Without them the receiver could not find the signal to run the setup program. So you either need to have DTV send them or schedule professional installation.
